What to buy next. Wilson or Sig

My next purchase will probably be my
last for a while. Want a Wilson
Millenium Protector and a Sig P229 in
40sw/357sig. Can only have one. Which
one would you choose?
Ronin

No-brainer.

Wilson.

SIG's, IMO, have entirely too many buttons/levers/aluminum parts. High bore axis. High price (for what is basically a Ruger equivalent, except Rugers are better/nicer).

How can you even compare a sig to a ruger????? sigs are by far much better guns. they are better made, more reliable, more accurate and better than rugers in just about every other way. (as you said WESHOOT2
don't kill the messenger).

i would probably take the sig 229 in .357sig over the Wilson. although if i could have any 1911 it would be a Wilson CQB i still would take the sig.....i would do this for several reasons
1. i don't want a 1911
2. i like the .357sig round over the .45
3. i like the way the sig functions (decocking lever and everything like that)
4. the sig's alot less $ so i could buy some hi-cap mags and ammo with the extra money

sigs are great guns and after beretta and glock i would take a sig over just about any other gun.

Greetings Poster's; I'm appauled at the
comment's made by WESHOOT2, concerning
Sig-Sauer firearms. His comparison of
Sig's to Ruger's is under classmen ship;
at it's worst. First of all, Ruger's are
indeed fine handguns; that much we can
agree on. Matter of fact, that's all we
can agree on!!! Sig's are top of the line,
straight out of the box; with all the bells
and whistle's. If you are a "rich kid" with
unlimited finances then spend $1500-$2000
bucks, and buy you a Wilson. I have bet my
life on a standard Sig-Sauer P220A .45ACP
since 1988; with no regret's. The difference
is, Wilson builds competition model guns;
whereas Sig's are "Combat Ready" service type
weapons.

I could understand a novice making this comparison; but a man who supposedly loads
"custom ammunition"; come on give me a break!
With those comments sir; you just lost a
potential customer here in The Heart Of Old
Dixie; and I will tell everyone I know, of
your stupidy!!! :D

Ala Dan, i agree with you about everything but 1 point you made:

you said rugers are fine firearms and i'd have to disagree. the best i can say about them is they are fine firearms FOR THE MONEY.

as they say you get what you pay for rugers are about $300 and sigs are around $600. sigs are more than worth the doubled price for a good firearm especially if its for defense. i have seen too many ruger pistols fail to work in many ways to give any compliments about them. i will say they make good SA revolvers and good long guns but thats about it.

i also would never buy a gun from ruger because of their views on our 2nd ammendment rights. they're up there along with S&W on my list of guns to never buy. i'd take a good gun company such as beretta over a ruger anyday for 2 basic reasons:
1. beretta makes better guns
2. beretta has a better view on our rights as ruger does. beretta has yet to give in to any demands made by anyone.

Buy the Wilson you won't be sorry,Wilsons Combat makes COMBAT ready pistols if anyone has any doubts check out there Catalog. CQB(Close Quarters Battle),Protector,Sentinel,KZ tactical carry pistol, sds(Stealth Defense System)tactical elite and yes they are ready to go right out of the box.I have a Protector with over 18,000 rounds fired through it that has been reliable and accurate. And yes I trust this pistol with protecting me and my wife.Ala Dan I think you should read your post before calling someone stupid kinda like the pot calling the kettle black. BILLG

Greetings BILLG, I see you elected to cover
up your e-mail address, so I can't respond
personally. However, with that said MR.
WESHOOT2 made a comparison that is totally
inapproiate. It's true, as I stated "if a
rich kid" wants to spend $1500-$2000 bucks
then for heavens sake's buy you a damn
combat ready Wilson; otherwise I'm going
the economic way, and I would bet the Sig
will shoot "close to" the Wilson provided
conditions are equal.

Now trying to start a flame war here; but
not everyone on TFL has the "mega bucks"
to spend on Mr. Wilson's masterpiece.
On the other hand, MR. WESHOOT2, knows
that Sig's are high quality firearms!!! :)
Why he compare's them to Ruger's, is beyond
me?

RUS, You are so right. Ruger's produce fine
firearms for the money. A fellow LEO, here
in BamaLand and working for a "major department" that allows many options of
weaponary; choose's (and shoot well) a
P94. He wouldn't have anything else; as
we tried to pass "the hat" around and buy
the weapon of his choice!!! :D Then, I own
a Ruger MK-II KMK-512 that is superb. Great
little gun for the $289.88 that I spent on
it!!!

Also, I knew another person who owned both
a Ruger P90 and a Glock 21. The P90 shot so
well, that he practically gave away the G21!!

One other Ruger story and I am done. Once
upon a time, I owned a Ruger M77R in .338
Winchester Magnum. Beautiful gun, had inscribed on the barrel "Made in the 200th
year of American Liberty"; but that rascal
kicked so darn bad, I traded in for a Smith
& Wesson nickel Model 27 with 5 inch barrel.
Forget what I did with it? :(

That's All For Now Folks,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

PS: MR. WESHOOT2, I apologize for my wording;
just a big Sig fan!!! :)

Correction; Last post, paragraph 2 should
start with the word "NOT"; instead of Now.
Guess I'd better proof my post? UH?

Ronin99; Let's see now-Hmmmmm-a $1200.00 1911 or one of the finest handguns ever made for $600.00. I'll take the Sig anyday! j.s.

Take a chill pill. Everybody realizes that Sigs are fine firearms out of the box. Rugers are decent for the buck. Wilson's are outstanding. Granted, I'm biased coz I love 1911's. I'd have to disagree the Sig will shoot "close to" the Wilson. I've seen plenty of comparison shoots. The Sigs are GREAT and shoot very nice groups. However, it's not even close compared to the Wilson's groups. This isn't based on one shoot either.

Not every person who buys a $1500-2000 pistol is a rich kid. Many people save for a very long time to purchase a high quality 1911. They are worth every penny. To make that kind of judgement is as bad as an anti calling every gunowner a gun nut. Jeezus, so the guy made a bad comparison with Rugers and Sigs. No need to call him stupid. Before I open my big mouth, I'll end it at that.

I second Russell on Berettas being outstanding.

Hey,if I was rich I wouldn't be
considering a Millenium Protector Which
lists at $1200. Sure I could buy a loaded
Springfield for say $600 but how much
extra would it cost me to bring it up to
the Wilson? Not to mention shipping it
all over the country to have the work
done and time lost. On the other hand the
best weapon I've fired, with my limited
experience, has been the SigP228. If the
P229 is anything like the P228 Whew!And
the Wilson may be better than the Sigs. I
have a month to choose. Sorry if I caused
an argument. Didn't mean to,just like to
buy quality. It pays off in the long run
I've found. Btw at 56 I'm no kid,just
immature or so my girlfriend says! :D

Greetings Svt; Yeah, so I made a bad judgement call relating to WESHOOT2.
I did apolozie in myh last post; heck
there's enough room here for us all!!!
To classify "rich" is just a verbal
expression. I agree, not everyone who
spends mega bucks on a finely tuned
handgun is "rich"; as I have done some
"stupid" things myself, regarding gun
purchase's!!! :D Guess we all have. :)

As far as WESHOOT2's post; hey the guy
does a great job, most of the time. And
I agree in most instance's. Just didn't
quite understand him calling the gentleman
"NO BRAINER" at the beginning; and comparing
Sig's to Ruger's, that's all. I took my chill
pill, and now I off to work. Until next time,
everyone have a great Friday evening, and a
better day Saturday.

With Regards,
Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member

Well Ala, I'm sure he realizes that there isn't a comparison between the Rugers and Sigs now hehe

BillG,

If you've ever read "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross, you will remember the part where a character is in the process of buying a H&H .600 Nitro double rifle for a pretty penny. Another customer comes over and tells the fellow he would be better off with an American brand (I think it was Winchester) in a major caliber. The fellow buying the H&H tells him off, outlining his ignorance in no uncertain terms and sends him on his way.

After all this, the store owner says to the fellow buying the H&H that this kind of thing happens all the time. The loud mouth guy would never in his life spend top dollar for a top end gun. This makes him a bit jealous of anyone willing to save up the cash to do so himself. To save his ego, the loud mouth needs to tell anyone who'll listen how inane it is to "waste" good money on an expensive gun when a lesser priced model will do "as well or better".

Ronin,

Go with the Wilson. Wilson arms are among the best semi-custom firearms money can buy. You will probably only spend this kind of money on a gun once or twice in your life, so make it good. Buy the best you can and don't look back.

You will never regret buying a top end gun. You may some day regret not buying one.

Ronin--

The p229 is pretty damn slick! Very accurate, smooth, and above all reliable. The barrel changes out easily, it is like two guns in one. You will love this pistol!

Have fun!!

Depends if you want it or need it. You can get a Sig and a nice something else for the price of the Wilson, but if it is an ego thing or something you have always wanted and the planets are perfectly aligned at this moment in your life and it will not happen again, get the Wilson. Might as well ask me if you should have married your wife or her sister. ;)

Sig P229! I love my new one - just put a couple of boxes of .40 through it this afternoon and it shoots excellently! When I save up anouth $250 I'll buy a .357Sig barrel and have 2 guns for the price of one. The remaining hundreds and hundreds of dollars buy A LOT of ammo for practice vs the Wilson. Now I'm not dogging Wilson - I know them only from reputation though, having never fired one - but I think everyone will admit the Sig is top-flight right out of the box. Face it, both can be relied upon to go "boom" on command and put the round close enough to do the trick.

My turn..........LOL

All my personal guns are modified. I own no Ruger or SIG automatics. I don't care what a gun costs, or what it 'looks' like; function is my ONLY concern. I have no agenda, personal bias (political/experience/bad hair day), or other reason ('foreign owned', 'my buddy had a crappy one', etc.) to opine one way or another.

I do, however, have considerable experience with guns that customers leave with me. They do so because I can develop loads for their specific gun, which they can then copy. I have some experience with the guns mentioned, even in different calibers (and some with both standard and aftermarket barrels).

The question was asked: "...can only have one. Which one would you choose?..."

I answered "No-brainer. Wilson."

Ronin (who also asked for a 1911...) did NOT ask what he should get. He asked what I would choose.

No disrespect to SIG, but in my experience the Ruger autos are functionally equivalent, fit my hand better, are simpler to use, deliver better accuracy with more different loads, are more durable, and cost less.

The Wilson pistols are factory customs, and normally deliver extreme accuracy and great reliability.

Thank you all for your many kind statements....I still prefer my EAA Witnesses, my personal automatic of choice! LOL

WESHOOT2,

So, ummm, what you're trying to say is that we haven't convinced you yet that SIG is better? Geesh!! :D

FWIW, I'd personally get a SIG P229 instead of a (insert your favorite 1911 here). In fact, I did.
