What threads on 870 stock nut?

Hey Guys,

I was trying to install a pistol grip stock on my 870 and managed to cross thread the screw, messing up the threads on the welded nut that attaches the stock. Can anyone tell me off the top of their head what tap I need to get so I can fix up the threads?

Thanks,
Chris

According to byf43...

"IF you can't locate a bolt. . . or don't accept pcf's commendable offer, you can pick up a 1/4" x 10" (or 12") piece of cold rolled steel and thread one end for 1/4" x 28 threads (receiver end) and the other for 1/4" x 24 thread and put a flat washer, then a locking nut on the recoil pad end of the stock.

Doing this, you can custom-make a stock bolt for your 870.

Use either a nylock nut or standard nut and BLUE Locktite. The nut I used was a nylock nut.

I did this when I cut the 'beater stock' that I put on my son's 870 Youth Express, because even the 'youth' stock was too long.
