What steel for floor plate / trigger guard

Hi Gents. I have a Remington 788.....well, half of one, and I want to finish it. The problem is I dont have a floor plate or trigger guard. Ive all over the internet and at a few gun shows to no avail. Ive decided Ill just make the two peices. The floor plate is pretty darn easy, the trigger guard will be a bit more work.

I need steel for this project but Im wondering what kind. Mild hot rolled would be to soft, namely for the trigger guard me thinks. Would cold rolled be hard enough? Spring steel? Cold rolled + hardening?

I've seen trigger guards made from brass, aluminum, steel and plastic, pick what's easiest for you to work with as there's not a lot of stress on your trigger guard.

Best Regards

I suspect .222 and .223 should be about the same. I had a Remington 788 .222 in the past, great rifle, lots of woodchucks would say the same too.
