What state has the worst gun laws?

There is another thread going around that asks, "What state has the best gun laws?". So I thought I would ask, "What state has the worst gun laws?".

My vote is for Kalifornistan.

Not even close. Bad as California is, it's still better than Maryland, New York, Illinois, and Massachusetts. (and D.C., if you want to include them)

Worst in what way? Concealed carry? Possession of large capacity firearms? Class III weapons?
For example, worst for carry are the four midwestern states that prohibit concealed carry altogether, Kansas, Nebraska, Wisconsin, and whatever the fourth is.
For Class III, Iowa prohibits them (I've been told), Mass. allows them.

I guess I should clarify...I meant the hardest/most hurdles to jump through to own or buy a gun.

DC

Long gun (sg or rifle) if registered and ammo to match ONLY (ammo needs to be registered also). Gun must be stored separate from ammo. Certain business owners may apply for license to keep sg at business.

And you better not use it for defense....

OC Must be 18 and have it registered.

Even as LEO I have a duty weapon G19 and just recenlty applied for my off duty license (G26).... no other options. Also SG certified, but not allowed to carry one.

Did I mention I live in VA :)

Good grief man! I think DC takes the cake so far. I am surprised they do not make you put serials on the bullets too! You could always grind them off though :p.

Doesn't our pro gun president live in DC? What RKBA actions has he taken to alieviate this situation? Oh, didn't the Justice department support the DC government in the law suits against this policy? :barf:

New York State is a big State and everyone clumps it with the NYC area. Yes it's restriced in some areas and you have to jump through hoops, but just about every law abiding person who wants a permit is given one to own handguns. I would say most of the State has no restrictions and we can carry just about anywhere except Schools and Federal buildings. The key is to know the law which is actually very liberal in the permit holders behalf.

My biggest complaint about a pistol permit is that after all the background checks by local, state and FBI, medical evaulation etc. you have a pictured I.D. that the bank won't even honor as a second I.D. to cash a check. They'd rather accept a library card, go figure that out.

Wow. You have to register -ammo- in DC? Oh yeah - politicians aren't concerned with their own hides

Illinois is bad, but it's not horryfing yet. Aside from needing the FOID card to do anything (even buy a box of 22lr), and a ban on SBR's, it's pretty "free". The catch here is that they are CONSTANTLY trying to pass some of the most draconian bans, year after year. So the overall -atmosphere- here is pretty oppressive. If we can hold them off this year, I think we'll be safe for another 4, because it's hard to imagine Blagojevich getting re-elected.

Most Confusing Laws?

I realize that same states give California some competition for bad gun laws. But we must have the most confusing ones.

Our state has a lsit of handguns that can be sold here. If a gun is not on the list, then it is forbidded. The list is very specific.

My FFL transfer guy gave me an example. Beretta 92's are on the list with their standard barrel length. A while back, Beratta made some with the barrel flush with the frame. The barrel was 3/8's of an inch shorter. This particular variation was not on the state's approved list. My dealer had one brought in, not realizing this. The state slapped him on the wrist. His client had to have the pistol returned to the seller.

Explain to me, how a fraction of barrel length difference turn a gun from good to bad?

He's got one thing in common with the anti- leaders... He lives in a "gun-free paradise" full of criminals (if you know what I mean ;)), and he's usually never more than 10 feet from an armed bodyguard.

Wolfe.

To get on the "approved list" in California, manufacturers must supply a gun to the state police for "drop testing". They drop it muzzle first (and other ways one assumes) and it must not go off accidentally. As I understand it, the reason most guns aren't on the list is because the manufacturers just don't submit them. Although, that explanation has always seemed weird to me. How much could it possibly cost your typical gun manufacturer to send this years models? $1000-2000?

laser engraved bullets

buckster- new member here, and Barr the are wanting to engrave bullets with laser technology in california. With all these unconstitutional requirements, do you think they want to come pick up guns some day?? What if some one steals your bullets?

looking for 7mil swm in texas preferably without scope

A guy out in Llano wants me to hunt deer but a 45 won't do it. What is the reqirements to buy a gun locally in state. do you still have to do the white sheet?

:D

Carry liability insurance on our bullets?

I do not think they will ever serialize our bullets because that is just assinine. Pardon my French. Dumber things have happened though. Just 2 years ago my .22 squirrel rifle was an "assault weapon" of unimaginably destructive powers. It allowed me to take on 4 squirrels, 3 rabbits, 2 birds, and a partridge in a pear tree and live to tell about it. Just kidding. Making light of stupidity is the only thing that keeps me from getting mad thinking about it.

I received my latest American Rifleman yesterday. In the politics section it was mentioned that a bill to rescind the DC ban is in the Congress.

Anybody want to bet that GWB announces this as a priority at a news conference?

Before you say he is so busy fighting the WOT, remember he found time to fly up for the Schiavo brouhaha.
