what state has the best gun laws?

That is, the least restrictive? Might be something worth thinking about. Also probably should consider political climate, politicians in office, rural vs. industrial, etc.

Asking which State has the "best" gun laws is like asking which cancer do you think is the best to have? The best laws are no laws at all. VT is the best in that respect. Laws about firearms in most cases are like locks on your front door. They are designed to keep honest people honest. Bad guys/girls will bust into your house if they have a mind too, regardless of the locks. Bad guys/girls will buy an illegal weapon regardless of a zillion laws on the books.

Honest citizens contantly jump through hoop after hoop to comply with the onerous regulations put forth by supposedly well-meaning legislators. It is becoming more and more difficult, however. It is like running a race where someone keeps moving the finish line further and further down the road.

Why is it that most states have motor-vehicle laws that require insurance yet we all have "uninsured motorist" provisions that we have to pay for? It's because the slime out there don't feel they have to comply with the laws on the books. If the government can't inforce laws that requires everyone to carry car insurance, why do they think they can force people to comply with gun laws?

Whew! I feel better now. Sorry for the rant but I really get sick and tired of all the bravo sierra. Thanks for the opportunity to blow off a little steam.

Well covered topic here on TFL

I'd try the search function if I were you.

My vote remains Idaho. We've got it pretty good here, not just in the laws, but also in the culture.

Rome,

Your comments about uninsured motorist insurance are excellent. It's something most people can relate to, and it's a powerful analogy very well suited for use in any gun control debate. Will store this one away for use at a later date. Thanks.
