A lot of ranges on which I've shot, say "no shot larger than 7 1/2", so that's what I use. I have shot matches where that didn't do the job unless the gun was choked tighter than cylinder. Pepper Poppers can be set so they will fall with a breath of wind, but I've seen some steel that was not adjustable, and at rest was leaning forward against a fixed stop at 15-20 degrees. Set out at fifteen yards, I couldn't drop them, when full-choked guns did.
