Just getting into slug hunting and i have a remington 870 express and 1100. The 1100 has a perminate modified choke, the 870 is inerchangeable, was wondering if it was ok to shoot slugs out of the 1100 and if not what choke do i need to use for the 870?

Also want some oppinons on slugs to use for Hogs.

Most publications call for Improved Cylinder but I have also taken deer with a fixed full choke barrel. Go with the IC. I think that most slug barrels are choked as such. I am to understand that you are talking about a smooth bore.

You will not harm your Mod choked 1100 with slugs. You may actually get good groups with it.

Slugs tend to perform better with a more open choke. Anywhere from Cyl to Mod. You won't damage your gun by shooting them through full choked guns. I would avoid shooting them through a turkey choke and many such chokes carry this warning on the side.

You'll have to experiment to see which your gun likes, but Improved Cylinder is a good starting point on the Remchoke gun.

As to which slugs, I'd try Brenneke KO's and see if your gun likes them. They're a little harder lead alloy and were developed specifically for boar hunting in Europe. I'd expect good performance on English speaking piggies as well.
