What sights should i use on my win 94

six-gun

just bought a winchester 94 at a gun show...got an amazing deal. i want to start using this for hunting. it came with the scope mount plate on the side (sorry, i honestly don't know the proper term for that piece). but it's the plate with two large thumb screws that's actually bolted to the rifle. you then attach your scope mount to that. but, i've read that scopes on a winchester are not good. they're off-set and difficult and you're just better off firing with open sights. so the question is, do i remove the plate and use iron sights? do i buy a ladder sight or something aftermarket like that? or do i go ahead and mount a scope. i'd like to know what others have seen and done. I will be hunting mule deer, whitetail, and possibly feral pig. so let's hear everybody's thoughts on this.

thank you,

well im kinda partial to my 94 30-30. I have the side mounts as you described with a 3-9 bushnell and I LOVE this gun. Most people just dont like to see a classic gun with a "weird" scope set up on it.

Ive had mine for bout 15 yrs and really like the set up, I say before you toss the mounts, go ahead and put a scope on it and see how you like it....if you dont like it pull it off and use the supplied open sites, there more then enough for 150yd shots
