Can anybody tell me what type of sighting system I see atop military rifles that our troops are seen with on TV ? It looks like one of the 1X "red dot" type scopes. I'm not refering to the night vision scope.

Thanks,
Rich

In addition to the ones mentioned by Erick, I also saw quite a few Eotech HoloSights and C-More Tactical sights issued to troops, and a huge variety of privately purchased sights. The C-More sights (like the one I carried in Iraq) traditionally come with a high impact polymer hood around it's lens, but several of the SF teams in my area had specially produced models with an aircraft aluminum hood. I've been waiting expectantly for C-More to add this model to their catalog...

In your reply you mentioned a 4X Army variant and a Marine Corps variant for the M-14. I am looking for an optical sight for my M1A. I have been useing a Leupold 4 1/2 - 14 VX III, it's great for target shooting from a bench or prone but target acquisition from an offhand position is too slow for my purpose, which is to protect my garden and ducks from foxes, racoons, bobcats, coyotes, etc.. These guys are small and fast. I have tried a Tasco AccuDot 1x30 with a 5MOA dot and found that this was a step in the right direction but had some shortcomings. I found the 5MOA dot to be a bit larger than I would prefer and that 1X was not quite enough for these old eyes of mine, also there seems to be a lot of light lost to the optics. The scope was borrowed . The range of my target is usualy between 50 and 125 yds. So in my mind I'm thinking something like a 2X or up to 4X with a smaller dot say 2 or 3 MOA, or an illumminated crosshair. Have you got any suggestions? I've looked thruogh a lot of catalogs and found same old, same old 1X with a 5MOA dot ranging from $30 to $250.

Thanks for the help,
Rich
