What should it cost for drill/tap for scope base?

So, I'm sending in my marlin for repairs so that means that for the next 6-8 weeks ill be using my H.C. Higgins single shot .22

This thing really is a cool little gun and i dont mind using it despite the single shot action. However, i do mind the factory sights being noticeably crooked. (what do you want for 50 year old sears $39.99 special? right?) Anyway i would like to have a gunsmith either A: correct the factory iron sights, or B: drill and tap the reciever for a scope base.

any idea on what one could expect to pay for such a service? Thanks.

All depends on where you live, how good the smith is and how much competition he has in his area, coupled with the action he has to drill and tap - in short..............it depends........;)

A round-top action takes more skill than a flat top one, etc., etc.

It is round top if im remembering correctly.

Can you maybe ballpark me? $50? $100? more?

its probably not even worth it for a $50 rifle. but it is a cool little guy and i do like it. Would be nice to be able to consistently hit something without seat of the pants compensating to the right...

Thanks

If its 50 yrs, shouldn't it have...

the 3/8 grooved top? Simple use Weaver 1" 3/8 groove top-mount rings?

Might have to find and old Weaver "N" side mount and do that.

This is wrong time of year to have a smith doing work, due to others screaming for theirs to be done before deer season. Best delay till after the first of year.

Generally $10-20$ a hole depending on where/who you go to.

Round top shouldn't be any more difficult then a flat top for a skilled gunsmith. He just clamps it in a vise and centers the drill (to his punch marks) and carefully starts the drill. I've drilled and tapped many holes myself in my machinist days and it's no big deal.
