What should I pay for a *&* 696?

I'm looking at a 97-98% *&* 696 .44 spec and am wondering what is a fair price? $425 is the best I heard.

I'd like to hear from those who've bought new and used since the price increases of last year, so I can get an idea of what the difference is between what this gun goes for new and the used value.

Just got used 696 for $350, as new condition.
Have seen them new and used at gunsamerica.com for reasonable prices, although ain't looked lately. Really like this pistol and CCI's blazer loading with Speer goldots were exceptionally accurate in it. Have looked at several of these pistols and would advise ya to look before buying if you can. The quality of fit(especially the triggers) and finish were inconsistent.

I bought a NIB 696 about three years ago for $390. I know that is irrelevant now, but I have really enjoyed owning and shooting it. As with most late model Smiths, the SA was pretty good, but the DA was awful. Had a good trigger job performed and now it is my favorite wheelgun. Like Zeke, the Gold Dots are quite accurate as are Hornady 180gr. XTPs. By the way, does anyone know if any company is making factory ammunition in 180 or 200 grains that is loaded to +P type pressures?
