What should I get?

I want to purchase a new rifle for my wife and a new double barrel shotgun for me. I'm thinking about something in .243 or 22-250 for her. Already have an AR but I'm looking for a varmit rifle for her (she's a novice). I already have a Rem 700 in .308 that I use. Wanted something different than the Rem 700.

I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on the shotgun. Would like to hear what others might recommend on these 2 firearms. Thanks.

I have been very impressed with the performance of the Savage Axis. I have one in .223 with a Bushnell Banner scope. Not too very much money at all. I think I got the whole combo well under $500, and they come in .223, .243, .22-250 as well as a variety of other calibers.

No advice on the shotgun. Double barreled shotguns tend to be relatively expensive. Academy has their own brand of double barrel shotguns called Yildiz made in Turkey which you can find around $500 also. I just don't shoot shotguns enough to know what's decent in what price range.

.222

Are you looking for new or used?
If used, a Remington 600 or 660 is a nice light rifle and the .222 has almost no perceived kick. the round is inherently accurate capable of one hole groups at 100yds
