what should i do

i live in a suburb but these turkey buz, keep poopon on my car and all over my yard there siting in a big oak tree in my yard is there any products to get them to go away

These critters are about as heavily protected of any in the USA... I can't think of anything legal short of a car cover...

What would I do???

Leave a road kill carcass in the back yard, or somewhere close (10yds ish) to good cover for me. Get concealed as possible. Pump up the crossman to max. And wait. Take out one with a good head shot. Repeat as necessary until they get the picture and move on, or are no longer with us.

Be advised, as Hogdogs stated, they are protected.

They may get the idea with a string of blackcats up in the tree too.

Hunt related needs not have guns mentioned... just like a bow killed deer is not gun related.... Fella was simply asking about a critter needing controlled albeit protected thus I did not mention what #4 turkey loads do to them.

A very large house cat?

You might just watch a large house cat fly away:eek:

I have a neighbor here in Washington that lost a pug to a bald ealgle 3 years ago. They heard a yelp and ran outside only to watch the dog fly away. I think of this often and like to believe that my Jack Russel would win that battle but she just might die from the fall after she takes a big bite.

Try some bird foil tape... It's Mylar and you can get it from a gardening store. When the wind blows it startles the birds. Worked for my garden a few years ago. If all else fails, whos to say Mr. birdie couldn't have a sleeping pill in his road kill?

sail boaters use those free cd's for AOL etc hanging from fish line to make "flashers" that work well to keep birds off the rigging... May help for a while...

That'd be ok with me, but my airedale's would be very jealous.

Ok then, on a more serious note...

First, move the car(s).

Then maybe set a good sprinkler in a position to spray up into the tree.

Then turn it on, and let it run for a few days during daylight hours.

The tree will grow well, and the pests should find another place to hang out.

Repeat as necessary.

Or...

A paint ball gun is your friend?

What do they do? Use the tree as a night-time roost?

Me, I'd wait until a few had come in to roost, and then run out and yell and scream. Hang around until they're gone. Off the cuff, they'll not come in after dark, most likely. If they do, make a point of getting up early and do the yell and scream thing again.

Two or three repetitions of this and they oughta get the message.

And it's entertainment for the neighbors. :D

Couple of suggestions, some similar to above:

They sell motion detector activated sprinklers that are supposed to scare deer (although they don't, based on my experience) that might work. Not sure of the size of the tree or angles involved.

Extreme measure would be to put bird netting up over the entire tree, so they can't get in to roost.

There is also a product that is like Ben-Gay that is supposed to irritate their feet. I am not sure of the practicality of that on a whole tree. I have used it with some success in a barn.

Might give a call to your local Fish and Wildlife folks and see what they say.

Once buzzards decide on a roost tree, it is just hard to get them to change their minds. There is one not far from my house that looks like it has been used for 100 years.

A lightbulb just came on

A boat horn. You know, the kind powered by compressed air in a can. It'll scare the bird poo outta them!

I hate to sound pessamistic, but I don't know if there is much you can do legally.

At a boat ramp near where I used to live, a flock of several hundred took up residence. They were lighting on cars and trailers, scratching paint with their claws, eating the windshield wipers, door and windshield mouldings (anything rubber like that, but for some reason they didn't seem to bother tires), and ripping the carpet off the boat trailers. Not to mention pooping all over everything that stood still, and a lot of stuff that moved.

The county tried all kinds of things, and nothing worked. They cut down trees, the buzzards moved to others. They hung up shiny things to scare the birds. The birds used them to fix their makeup. They had a fellow who came down every morning throwing fireworks and such. The birds would get up, fly around a bit, then come right back. Yelling at them produced not much more than a couple of hops away from you.

I used to take my bicycle down there and ride the dirt road along the river. I'd have to swerve to go around them, they totally ignored me.

It took the county a couple of years to get the approval to first live trap them and relocate them, and finally to kill a few. I don't know what ever happened there. I moved away, but stopped using the boat ramp long before.

By the way. Someone mentioned cats. Cats were probably at least part of the problem. People dumped cats there. The cats did what cats do, and there were dozens of stray cats around also. People felt sorry for the "poor kitties" and fed the XXXX things. The cats flourished. I don't know if buzzards will kill a cat or not, but I'll promise you those cats never killed a buzzard.

Good luck. You'll need it.

Like so many other creatures, they can become a problem when there is no control.
The fishing pier's around here have been taken over by the flying white rats! Who wants to go wallow is bird crap.
I would think the turkey buzzard would be easier to relocate than gulls. Find a nice remote place and collect a few road kills to drop off in the new buzzard paradise. You might have to do that every few weeks until they forget about your place.
That would be easier than building a McDonald's to relocate the gulls:D

Gbro, if the tree is a roost that won't help... They return after eating the roadkill and some more of the vile feces on yer car...
