What should I do next?

So, I'm starting to accumulate a little collection and I have a plan, but am more than willing to adjust it. What's currently in my stock,

1. Mossberg 500 Persuader
2. Beretta PX4 Storm .40 (TLR-1 Streamlight & Hogue Sleeve)
3. Sig Sauer P226 9mm.
4. S&W M&P 40c (This will be purchased this weekend).

Three things I have on the list that I want, just not sure of the order
1. Any AR/AK. I know of the everlong debate, not looking for one here just want to get one or the other
2. Any 1911 model. I love the discussion on this forum and have seen plenty of beautiful models. Ruger's, RIA's, Colt's, S&W's. Again not looking for a debate on which company, just should I get this over #1 or #3 on the list
3. Gun safe. Now that I'm acquiring a collection this old "gun cabinet" with 1 key lock just isn't going to cut it. I have friends who have some very nice & dare say, fancy safes to keep their collection.

SO, to stop ranting, if in my position, of the 3 items above, which order would you pick them up? Would get the AR/AK first then the safe or safe above everything, then go back and add to collection. Thanks for all your thoughts guys.

Safe first, decide what size you need then go two sizes larger!

Then the AR.
Then an AK.
Then 2 1911's.
Then a bolt action hunting rifle.
Then a lever action.
Then a M1A.
Then a semi-auto shot gun.
Then a single action .22 revolver.
Then a ......
Then a ......

It gets really fun! (my wife says ridiculous):p:rolleyes:

Yep safe first...
Dropping the coin on one hurts, so, you might as well get it over with and move on.

For your HD handgun, especially if you have kids. An AR is next on my list.

Get a CMP M1 Garand. Some day they are going to be gone. Every red blooded American should have a Garand. Still a good buy, but like the Carbines and Springfields, they wont last forever.

The other stuff you have on your list will be around. Not so for the CMP Garands at the CMP prices.

I don't know where the closest Menards is to you - but - this coming Black Friday they have a 28 gun Safari Executive Fire safe on sale for $399.00. from 6:00am until 11:00am.

That's a heck of a good price for that size fire proof safe.

Hal, thanks for the update. I'll have to take a look online and see where one is at. We don't have one here in my town. Only a Gander Mountain and a Dick's Sporting Goods. But thanks for the heads up.

AK

If you decide to go with an AK variant be sure to go with a Saiga rifle and possibly convert it. Don't bother with a CAI WASR, not worth the money you would pay. You can get a new Saiga for $300-$350 shipped. Russian AK quality and reliability for much less. I bought one from J&G Sales, just waiting to go pick it up.

I'd say get the safe and go from there.

Note that listed capacity is always optimistic... a 30 gun safe might actually hold 30 rimfire rifles without scopes mounted. If you get into ARs and other black rifles, it may not even hold 20 of those.

Also, balance your needs between security, capacity, weight, and price. The cheap ones usually aren't as good as the makers claim. The stuff that's truly great are usually too heavy for most residential installations. Don't buy a $500 safe thinking you're getting something that will keep all burglars at bay while keeping the contents safe as the house burns to the ground. Just know what you're getting and know what you aren't paying for. Worst comes to worst, multiple smaller safes isn't a bad way to do it- you can keep them in different parts of the house and compromising one safe doesn't compromise your whole collection.

As for whether to get an AR, AK, or 1911, it's up to you. A decent AR or 1911 will be more than an AK, but not by a ton. It depends on what you feel your needs to be.
