First let start this thread as saying I am 100% thankful to our military for what they do everyday so we can enjoy our freedoms, also I am not asking so this can turn into a rifle / caliber debate.

I am truly curious as to what rifle and caliber our special forces use, was it a 5.56mm M4 or maybe a 7.62mm SCAR, 7.62mm M14 any thoughts. Also what optic?

Yup, we will probably never know for sure. Not that it makes any difference, his death is totally irrelevant, only useful for political PR at home.

Though it does show how ashamed one should be to be an American right now. We criticized people in the middle east for celebrating in the street after 9/11 and then we go do the exact same thing for the exact same reasons when Bin Laden gets whacked. "People who hurt us and cause us misery got hurt, lets go party."

+1

All of the news coverage and public celebrating of the death of OBL makes him more important in death than he has in life. He was an evil little man that got what he deserved. I would be very happy never to hear his name again.

There is some interesting commentary on this issue right now, but what I find intriguing is how differently he led his life rather than how his persona was presented . He was portrayed as a rugged ascetic who lived in a cave, on the run from his enemies. He was found in what passes for an affluent suburb, living in an exclusive compound in relative comfort.

He was portrayed as a warrior, resisting his enemies at all times. When he was killed, he didn't have a firearm, nor has any weapon been reported.

I believe that he had ceased to be relevant several years ago, except (and this is a very bid EXCEPT) as a symbol of the movement. Turns out that the symbol wasn't all it was supposed to be. But, that's normally the truth with symbolic people.

I suspect a lot of firearms are sold just because it is what our Special Forces carry.

Then there will be a lot more sold of a similar or the same weapon if it is ever identified which one was used again OBL.

I think I have heard the expression "Mall Ninga" used on this Forum before. Maybe in this case it is "Wanna Be Seals".
