What range to sight in 22LR with scope

I just aquired a new scope for my 10/22 and I want to sight it in but I have little Knowledge of rifles and scopes so I was curious to what is the best range to sight my rifle in for the best versatility. I was reading the ballistics on the box I last shot and it said that the bullet drops something like 3 inches at 100Y. I like to shoot at longer distances but want to be able to find a sight distance that will work well for many conditions. Any and all sugestions will be appreciated.

I think you are way overestimating the .22 Long Rifle to consider it for any hunting over 100 yards, and even that is pretty long for that cartridge. I would forget 100 yards and sight it for 50 yards so it will be a bit high at 25. These are much more realistic distances for the little .22.

I agree, sight at 50... and 100.

I sight at 50 yards indoors. I then sight at 75 and 100 outdoors to see where it will hit. I have taken groundhogs years ago in PA at 110 yards with a .22 using match ammo, but that was a long creep, from a rest, with an eye-shot on a calm day. I now keep ranges up to 100 or less if I am very familiar with the bullet.

I use a relatively heavy bolt gun with target accuracy and a 6-18X40 or 4-12X40 scope from a sitting or braced position.

I guess everyone has their own way...I prefer to sight in a .22 to be dead on at 75 yards. That way it's dead on at 25 yards, an inch or so high at fifty, and three or four inches low at 100. I think this gets the most useful trajectory out of a rimfire rifle.

Ditto RiverRider for the same ballistic reasons. I sight my scoped .22 rifles dead on at 75 yds. My scope (or dot sighted) .22 pistols dead on at 50. -- Kernel
