What price ammo?

I remember watching ABC News in November, and laughing when they showed the lines in guns stores, and describing the way Americans were reacting to the election results.

Well, I am not laughing any more.

I came to firearms late, and while my Kahr PM9 rests in the drawer, I have been waiting to buy a Glock 19 for over 3 months. I simply can not find one.

Then, the hunt for ammo began. I read a post here where someone was complaining because a member said how happy he was to get a box of 9mm 115gr FMJ for $9.99 The poster felt that $9.99 was not a good buy, but since I have been looking, $9.99 is about as cheap as I can find for Am. Fed Eagle that I use...but,

the problem for me now, is what type of self-defense ammo do I buy....and the prices here are over-the-rainbow, and that is for only 20 rounds. I recently bought several boxes of Gold Dot 124 gr self defense for $16.99 a box.

Can anyone recommend a different brand of self defense 9 mm ammo? I know everyone has their opinions and you folks have already helped me so much, so I am out here again asking for "good" quality self defense ammo.

Thanks, and I keep kickin myself for being sooo late to the party!

Less than a buck a round for the ammo that may save your life is not an outrage.

That said, look for quality SD ammo that comes in 50-round boxes. I like the Winchester Ranger 127+p+. It's not the newest fad, but it stacks up pretty well and can be found for $30/50 rounds or so.

I am sure there are others.

If the price is to steep. Learn to reload the type of bullet you want to defend yourself with or be happy with the ball ammo.

Double Tap ammunition lists some 9mm ammo at this link.

"9mm+P 124gr Speer Gold Dot JHP 50rds. $32.95

These loads are low flash and really move. All three loadings are +p rated and deliver quite a punch! The 9 is just fine! Now available!

Caliber : 9mm+P
Bullet : Speer Gold Dot JHP
Ballistics : 124gr @ 1310fps / 473ft. lbs. from a G17.
124 @ 1295fps / 462 ft. lbs. from a G19

I have ordered from them recently. If they have it in stock they will get it to you in about a week. They are in Utah and I'm in Georgia.

Personally, if I can get good SD ammo for under a buck and a half a pop I'm a happy camper. If you want cheaper SD ammo, I would recommend switching to .45 and shooting ball.

Also, if you are looking for a G19, have you placed a WTB? I have seen plenty of them out there if you do some looking.

I dont know what all the hype over handgun ammo is. Were I live in TX there is no shortage of it. The prices have all gone up but that would have to be my only complaint. But ammo has been going up for some time now. The only place I have seen that gets "low" on stock around here is Wal-Mart. Other than that every sporting goods store around has a great selection from ball ammo-personal defense. I am glad that I am kucky enough to drive 10mins and get what i want.
