i am looking for advise on what rifle i should get next(practicality is important).
i have...
AR15 (223), Weatherby(257), Browning BLR(308), remington 600(308), marlin (444),knight ML(50 cal),ruger #1(7MM STW) and a remington 600(243) on the way.
that gives me a semi, two levers, three bolts and two Singles.
what do i need (rifle wise) to complete my hunting array?
i am thinking a TC encore,ruger M77 international, Remington PSS, ?????
i have two daughters that i will want to be able to hunt w/ so i am thinking more along the lines of another #1 in a 243 international (i wish the chambered it in .308).

Well, YOU seem to be in good shape. Maybe compare lightweight bolt-guns in .243 and 7mm-08 for the girls; let 'em squabble.

You didn't say how old they are, but I'd start with letting them feel and fondle the existing stuff, just for them to see what they like best.

Actually, come to think of it, you're sadly lacking in the .22 rimfire plinker department.

:), Art

Agree with Art: where's your rimfire? I'd look for a Remington 541T with a sporter (not heavy) barrel, and set it up with a good variable power EFR scope. Nice, light package, that your girls can use to learn, but plenty accurate enough for serious shooting (targets or small game hunting).

If you're considering another single shot, look seriously at the TC/Encore. That way you can change calibers easily. Set up your different barrels with Leupold QR bases and you can get away with one scope between them. You could start with a .22 rimfire barrel, then add a .243 or 7mm-08 (or both), and then a .308, and then a . . . :)

If you go the Encore route, check your state regs first. Where I am, it is legal to purchase the Encore pistol and then outfit it with a rifle stock and long barrel, but NOT the other way around, so you might need to start with the pistol.

A .22LR - no question. You didn't mention how old the ladies are but if just learning to shoot, I'd forego the scope & start 'em out with iron sights. There's a special relationship there that they won't get using a scope (& besides, young eyes can still use 'em).

I also agree with Art on the .22 plinker. I would get a Ruger 10/22 and just shoot it with the open sights. After that, if it were me, I would look for a good M1A or FAL. They are a lot of fun. The good part is, as long as you buy quality, it is hard to make a mistake. :D
