What mods would YOU make to the SP101?

I know for some this may be like making a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but I like the rugged design of the SP101 and and trying to think of ways to refine it.

The hammer spur could certainly be beveled aroung the corners.
The sights could have a tritium vial inserted.

Anything else?

Well, you could swap the frame for a Dan Wesson mod 15 frame. Add the correct DW cylinder, action etc... mmmm.... A DW barrel. A nice DW Hogue grip. And that's it! Your SP101 is now improved.

And now let the flames and frothing-at-the-mouth begin! :D

Do them make a 9mm version? If not, a 9mm cylinder would be a nice accessory. Not necessarily an improvement.

Remove the spur completely, or at least contour it into more of a snag-free profile. Tritium insert is nice, along with a slight bevel to break the front edge of the cylinder. Break the corners of the trigger in the front and rear, and polish to blend it in. Ditto the lower rear edge of the cylinder release. A Wilson spring kit would probably do wonders for the action. Perhaps a nice frosted glass bead finish, off-set by polished hammer, trigger, cylinder flutes and cylinder release button.

To our customers,

As you may have noticed our delivery times have gone from six months to a year over the past few months. I have been experiencing ongoing health problems over the past few months that have gotten me behind schedule. As of today we are unable to accept any new Pistolsmithing orders. I am slowly working on catching up on our backlog of work. I am hoping in the near future to get caught up and back on a regular schedule. I am sorry if this has caused you an inconvenience but it is unavoidable.
If you are in need of a Pistolsmith I would suggest going to the following link for some alternatives.

Why would you want to take a good gun and cheapen it up?
All the Dan Wesson’s I’ve seen are poor design.
The cylinder release for one comes to mind.
The best design for a revolver IMHO is the Smith&Wesson.
The SP101 is a great gun as it is.

Cheapen it??!!!!

Ooooooohhh! Them are fighting word!!!!

I was just yanking on Ruger fans' collective chain; slow day at the office, you know...

But I do worship at the Church of Dan Wesson though :D

There is only one modification I would make to the SP-101 and that is to put a higher front sight that shoots to point of aim with 158 grain bullets on it. Other than that, I would leave it as it came from the box including the grips.
Jack Weigand does awsome work. I had my Model 29 done by him and it is a work of art; super accurate. I briefly considered sending him my SP-101 but decided that it was pretty close to my idea of a perfect compact piece as it is. I really wish I would have sent him my GP-100 instead of spending all that time thinking about it.

Have three 101s. My wife carries a 38 3inch, I carry the dao 357. Just purchased a 22 4 inch to practice with. All of them out of the box with heavy trigger pulls and rough fee. From past experience with these I have already takent the 22 apart and polished rough bearing surfaces and lightened main spring. After a couple of hours work is now close to the other two. I have actually gotten them as good as a really slick K frame smith. I have switched grips back and forth between hogue and factory and find I prefer factory. I narrowed front sight on the dao and lowered it to shoot to point of aim at 21 feet. Just near to perfect now.

See SP101 mods thread above.

Just had my new SP101 done by a local gunsmith. SA sear removed (DAO), internals smoothed, hammer spur removed and nicely beveled hammer.

So far so good. Can't think of a thing else I'd want to do it right now.
