What Lubricant to Carry for an M1A rifle?

Someone gave me an M14 buttstock cleaning kit for Christmas. While checking it out before installing it in my M1A I discovered that it has a "container, lubricant" as part of the kit which came empty. What lubricant would be the best to carry as part of the Buttstock cleaning kit?

I would carry LSA or Break Free in the larger end of the lube bottle and rifle grease (Lubriplate 130-A, Plastilube, or Tetra Gun grease) in the small end.
You should always use grease to lube your M14.

I don't own an M1A but I see folks talking about greasing the gun. Do you mean like greasing the receiver and that whole area? Instead of Gun Oil?

Sodapop

Use grease to anything that touches the bolt, (rails and reciever rear), the op rod rail, basically anything that has fast, violent, frequent movements involving friction.

Things like the trigger group, firing pin, spring guide, etc. usually get oil.

Hard Ball, the Mil-Spec stuff for the Rifleman's Rifle is called Lubriplate. It won't wash off in rain, and will continue to lubricate.

Lubing up the M1

I tried the oil but found that the grease was much better. Just as an aside, check out this website:

If you shoot and M1, you'll find this short article very interesting. I've check it out and found that it is 100% true, too. An M1 really does need grease in the proper spots.
