What lpi checkering?

Greetings all. What is the most useful lpi checkering pattern for the grip and forend for a Winchester 357 lever action? For plinking, protective purposes and possible field use. Would prefer info from those with actual experience. Thanks.

Purdey shotguns feature 23 lines per inch hand checkering on their "field grade " guns.. however I'd suspect that 18-16 lpi would be far mor economical. Hand checkering is EXPENSIVE. Better to buy a replacement stock set that is machine checked, or buy a ram line synthietic stock.

Call up you rifle's manufacturer.. are checkered stocks available from the factory??

Thank you Dr. Rob. I have been thinking on the possibility of purchasing an after market such as Ram Line. But would you know if it comes with the molded checkering already? And if there are swivel studs already attached. Their web site does not show this and none on this forum seem to know since my last post o this topic. Thanks.

Because of the low density of cheap walnut don't go under 16 or 18 lpi as it is not dense enough to hold and will look like hell
 
I have a Ram-Line stock on a Rem 788. It has molded checkering on both forearm and grip, and it came with swivel studs. I won't say it is the best looking stock I've seen, but it is very functional. Got mine from Midway for about $20 off the usual price during one of their sales.
