what kinda revolver did Indiana Jones carry?

Varied from scene to scene. There've been a number of discussions about this.

Ranges from a 1917 Smith to a Colt New Service of some type to even in on scene a Webley Mk VI.

In the first movie it was an "N" frame S&W .44spl. (though a 1911 Colt did make an appearance in a couple of scenes). Don't know the model # of the revolver, but they were popular in the 1930's (3+" bbl. models). Especially with one real life Bo "Jelly" Brice of the Oklahoma City Police Department who used one in several gunfights in the 1930's. Mr. Brice went on to teach combat pistol shooting to the FBI and later did a lot of trick shooting shows.

I've heard the Indiana Jones character was loosly based on a real life explorer/archioligest for the National Geographic Magazine - Ray Chapman. I believe he favored a Colt New Service in .38 on the hip - and a Colt Detective Special .38 for concealed carry.

In the last Indiana Jones movie he carried a top break Webly of some sort.

Nick,

Smith & Wessons of that age didn't have a Model number. They were known by names, such as the New Century (the official name for the early N-frame .44s), the Combat Magnum (later became the Model 19), or the Military & Police Hand Ejector (the Model 10).

Model numbers were adopted for public consumption in the 1950s.

DANG!!!! That Indy Gear site pretty much covers anything you would want to know about the Indiana Jones movies. Lots of interesting stuff to wade through.

Thanks Sniper.

Whatever it was, it was very effective for one shot stops when getting attacked by sword carrying bad guys! :D

That must've been the 1917.

In "The last Crusade", Indiana carried a Webley MK VI. This one is in it's orignal .455 Webley chambering. I picked it up at an estate sale last month.

Top-break Webley

Drifter:
Is that the gun he used to take down the swordsman in the first Indiana Jones sequel. I would luv to get me one of those. If I may ask What is average price for such firearm?

Herb,

I don't remember the movie completely. Just know he used the Webley MK VI in "The Last Crusade". Had to have one from that point on. Will have to rent it again and get back to you.

This particular Webley MK VI you see in the photo above is in excellent original condition. It's dated 1916, as is the holster. I would expect to pay $700-$900 for an unaltered, as issued MK VI in this condition, here in CA., with it's original holster and no import marks. If you find one for less, you've done well. They cost less in different parts of the country.

Herb,

I'm pretty certain that Indy used either a Smith or Colt in his first movie.

I THINK there's a screen shot here of that scene that was posted in an earlier thread on the subject.

As for a new Indy movie? Great...
