What Kind of Stippling On an Aluminum Frontstrap?

EQUALIZER

I've seen different designs. Everything from fine stippling that looks like it was done w/a vibratory engraver to a snake skin-like pattern (that was per-ty). It w/go on the frontstrap and ms housing of a project gun w/radical melting done overall. I have seen the hand-held stippling tools in Brownells, but I don't know that it would look any better than a random pattern w/the engraver. BTW I use a rotory tool too. The work w/be done by yours truly. Any Suggestions, or tools n methods available that would go w/a presentation grade 1911?
I'm tempted to try exotic snake skin and epoxy, but while very attractive, don't think it would be very practical.

Ok then, can anyone tell me where I can link to pics of various stippling?

BTW, Although I know that it won't grip as well, I'm still toying w/the idea of exotic reptile skin on the front and back strap. I'll still need stippling underneath if I decide not to keep it. I think it would go great w/the Ahrends tacticle checkered tulip wood grips.

I'm sorry you're not getting any response. I'd help, but I've never tried it myself. You would probably get better results in "The Smithy" forum. Lots of helpful folks there who really know what they're talking about. Good luck - sounds like a great project.

Thanks guys-

You have an awesome gun page, BK. I like the stippling that Kurt did on your HiPower. It looks better than checkering with those grips. Probably just as effective too, I'd guess. The fine grain looks like it might have been done with an engraver.

Maybe someone else has a pic of some good stippling. Always looking for new ideas.

BK,
Awesome Hi Power! Just got my second one today and want to customize it similar to yours. I was toying with the idea of stippling the topstrap, as I have a 1911 seratted along the top and love it. How do you like it?

Thanks for the compliments!

The stippling Kurt did is not only attractive but very functional. Not rough on your hands but gives a great gripping surface. The only way to compare the feel of the stippling to checkering is that it feels similiar to 40LPI - its there, it works and it does so in an unobtrusive way.

acp Mikey, the topstrap stippling, while probably not necessary, looks great - especially the milled borders around it. I had this done because I wanted one HP completely dressed up, but still a shooter. And it is.

EQUALIZER, here is a pic of my Stainless Kimber. It has the front strap stippled, the mainspring housing stippled, and the grip screws have been stippled. Brian Bilby, Advanced Combat Pistols, did the work for me.
He does good work, and is working on another for me now. His work is better than the picture shows.

YeeeeeeeeeDaaaawwwwggies!

Nice Kimber John! Checkerings got nothing on that stippling. He did a great job...Even the grip screws. Never saw one w/stippled grip screws before. Very original work.
Thanks a lot for posting the picture John.
