What kind of rifle's are left to own legally in California?

I know how bad we have it here in Cali as far as gun laws go. Wondering what kind of assault type or sub machine gun type rifles are left to be legally owned here in Cali. I envy my friend who has an Hk91, AR15, AK47, and FL or FAL. Damn, he is lucky to have bought those before the ban. What am I stuck with here that I can get legally? I know that the M1, Mini14 is still legal but what else? Not sure, but from what I here, certain SKS's are still legal to own here. I don't know. Which or what kind can i get that will not cost me an arm and a leg? Something in the below $500 price range like the SKS and AK's. Thanks.

I know M1919(semi auto .30cal "machinegun") are still legal, but expensive.

the only other military style rifle that you can buy is STG-58/L1A1...
BUT...it must be sold in one of two ways
1. NO PISTOL GRIP
or
2. Fixed(permanantly) 10 round mag(meaning you have to load by stripper clips) essentially makeing it similar to sks in operation.

and of course the m1 carbine, m1a, mini14.

Doesn't matter. They're all going to be banned there eventually. My advice is to run for the border and take as many folks as you can with you. When Kalifornia finally drops into the ocean, my hope is that nothing but liberal gun-grabbers are left in the state.

I wonder how many of these antis are now secretly wishing they had a good rifle in the wake of 9-11.

BWAHAHAHAHAAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA
aint nothing gonna be legal there soon! buy it,
keep it, hide it, bury it, lie about it, dont tell about it
and use it when you need to

Thats why I love Va. There are no silly laws like that here. :D As long as its not Full Auto, you can own it.

If I knew how, I would post a pic of my AR-15

"There isn't any detachable-mag semi-auto which is both legal in the PRK and also worth owning."

I think that the M1A is legal in Kali and that is one great rifle.

The M1A with the new "compensator" in lieu of the flash suppressor is legal here in our great communistic state. They'll be after our scoped rifles soon enough.

I'm not a lawyer so this is just my understanding of the rules, which I have read. The SKS's that are still legal are those that have fixed magazines with a capacity of 10 rounds or less still installed. The bayonets seem to be legal on the Russian and the Romanian versions, but not the Chinese. Don't ask why ... that would be one of the few questions you could ask that might qualify as "a stupid question" as it may actually have no reasonable answer! No AK's or AR's of any sort ... period. My advice ... if you are gonna stay, then get yourself an SKS while you can! Be forewarned that the confusion over SKS's has made many shops refuse to deal in them. I think that most will still receive one for you if you order it through them. If you get a C&R eligible one, like the Romanians, they might feel more comfortable.
Good luck!

RT13: From the looks of your post count, you're pretty new here, so I should ask you to pardon the biting sarcasm in the above posts, mine included. I really don't know much about CA restrictions, so I honestly can't help too much.

I will add, however, that the M1A is a nice rifle. I wish I owned one myself. However, I sort of doubt that it's going to come in under your $500 limit.

You didn't mention the application for this rifle (target shooting, hunting, defense, etc.) If you're looking for a self-defense weapon though, have you considered a good shotgun? It would easily fit your budget. It is the best of equilizers in close-quarter situations, and it can be a pretty effective long range gun with the right slugs. Not to mention the fact that it's still a relatively PC long gun (if there is such an animal) in the large scheme of things. For $500, you could build a really nice combat shotgun and still have some change for ammo. With a short rifle-sighted deer barrel, you'd also have a good gun for survival/hunting in addition to defense.

Just a thought... I know you might have your heart set on a nice rifle instead. But it sounds like those are getting scarce in Kalifornia.

If saands' advice on the SKS bears out with your local dealer, that's what I'd get--no doubt. Pick up a copy of Shotgun News and look for SKS deals. A few companies are still selling the Romanians for around $200-$250. 7.62x39 ammo is cheap and plentiful, and the SKS ain't a bad hunting rifle for a survival situation. Lots of folks around these parts use them for deer hunting.

Being a gun owner in Kalifornia sucks! the only people who can get all those "illegal" guns in Kalifornia are...PEOPLE WHO DO ILLEGAL THINGS! they don't seem to care what laws are passed here...anyway...the SKS is a good all around choice without paying an arm and a leg...I have the "illegal" chinese version...I bought a spike bayonett about 8 years ago at a gun show and put it on...it just looked naked without it...my buddy has a Russian version...BIG 'ol blade on the end of it...but if we shoot ours side by side at an outdoor range...same bullet...same gun...I AM A FELON! he on the other hand is a law abiding citizen:confused: sorry about the rant...just a sore spot...get a SKS while you can.
Tony.

The bayonets seem to be legal on the Russian and the Romanian versions, but not the Chinese. Don't ask why ...
The Chinese SKS' with bayonets lend themselves to many more Evil Black Dragon Shao Lin Kung Fu manoeuvers than the Russian and Romanian ones.

Curio and Relic SKSs are allowed to have the bayonet attached. The CA AW stuff typically doesn't apply to C&R stuff.

You can still buy:

Ruger Mini 14
M1A
M1 Garand
C&R M1 Carbine and new ones in certain configs
C&R SKS
HK SL6 and SL7 (not SL8)

HK SL6 and SL7 (not SL8)

Why not the SL8? It's such a PC rifle that you can even own it Germany...unless of course, it is black (that makes it an "Anscheinswaffe", something I'm not chastized with currently).

The Ruger Mini14/30 is still available.

The other option is to abandon semi-auto, go with something like a Remington 7600 pump with 10-rd mags in .308 :).

Oh, one small bit of good news: there's now no more mag capacity limits on leverguns starting next year :). Marlin I think has 15-shot .45LCs. Now all we have to do is convince 'em to rechamber it in .45ACP so we can get somewhere over 20 rounds down the tube :D.

Put a good scope on it, paint it black, write "DIFI SUCKS" on the stock, and you got yourself a Ginuwine California Assault Rifle(TM).

This reads as though the AW legislation doesn't apply to C&R rifles. It would be VERY interesting to see the section of the CA legal code that exempts C&R rifles from AW restrictions. As I understand it, the BATF creates the C&R list and simply being older than 50 years old seems to be enough to qualify. CA doesn't give a hoot if you found a AK that is 51 years old ... it is still an AW. I believe that the MAS49/56 is C&R ... but its integrated grenade launcher makes it a CA AW ... Too bad.

It is NEVER simple!

AKs are not, and will likely never be, on the BATF's C&R list, regardless of age. You're right, I should have used "sometimes doesn't" instead of "typically doesn't" since CA seems to randomly ignore one while pursueing another.

"not SL8's" because they have that evil protruding pistol grip. Yes, it's a thumbhole, but it protrudes below the trigger. Kinda screwy, eh?
