What kind of gun is this?

Can anyone determine any info about the date or type of gun this little girl is shooting?

Back around 1966 a friend of the family had a old lever action, long hexagon barreled rifle that shot a 30-40 kreg. That's all I remember about it.

yea I think its a 92. a 73 would have distinctive side plates on it. hopefully she didn't fire it, it looks like a lot of gun for her.

Guess this is going to turn into a matter of how many screws are seen on the side of the receiver. Taking a second look at the 94 there is a screw on the left side front bottom that the 92 doesn't have.

Beyond that I think we can agree it's a Winchester.

For some reason I think Canada, maybe the architecture and the trees. From her clothing, around 1900. The hoops on the barrel are for-sure WW I or earlier.

Recoil might not be notable if it's .32-20 or .38-40. I've forgotten whether or not the Model 92 was chambered in .25-20.

I believe its a Winchester 92 short rifle and the barrel is round. Original chamberings were 32-20, 38-40, 44-40 and the 25-20 was added in 1895.

The receiver is quite short, making me think it might have been a Marlin 39 rimfire or a predecessor. Annie Oakley used one in the late 1800s, I believe.

After looking more, it's probably a Winchester in a short centerfire cartridge. I'm not really good at rifles that old.

Winchester 1894 rifle not the carbine. Larger receiver seen than a 92s and its receiver screw pattern tells me its a 1894 and so does its magazine barrel band and round barrels were available. Most likely a 30-WCF as it was the most popular caliber and rifle for the times. _1892 models were popular in the West for those still riding horse back and horse & wagon. But 1892 model lost its appeal in the upper mid West and East coast where people were riding in those new fad horseless carriages and had easy access to New Haven Connecticut updated products. Year of dress seen on the little lady late 1890s or real early 1900s. 01 to 06 maybe. The child's beret hat suggest Spanish American War. Very popular (sailor) child's dressing for the times. (link below) furthest pix to the right side seen of the 9th line down from the top.)

Thank you for helping me piece together the info behind this photo! Gun, caliber (almost), and date! Amazing forensics guys :)

It is a Model 1894, which then would have been a fairly new rifle.

I am going by the screws and also by the bolt which does not show the locking lugs for the 1892.
