What kind of gun is this?

Hello,

Please help me . . .

I have a serial number for a handgun that was destroyed many years ago. I would like to find out the make and model of this gun by tracing its serial number.

This gun was destroyed in about 1968 or 1969.

Would it still be possible to learn the make and model of this weapon even after four decades have passed since it was destroyed?

If so, then who (or what) should I check with to get this information?

Post the serial number, if its just all numbers, its doubtful anyone can help. If it has some letters in it, it might be enough of a clue.

Can you tell us anything else about it? Revolver, or automatic? Approximate age?
 
Each manufacturer assigns their own numbers and generally there's no way to determine a make/model from a number. There's no way to "trace" a gun back by serial number anyway, except for CSI. :rolleyes:
 
Everybody, thanks very much. When I get permission from another party to post the serial number for you, I will definitely do so.

In the meantime, I am linking you below to a photograph of the revolver in question (which, as I say, was destroyed more than 40 years ago).

From looking at this image, does anyone have a good guess as to the make, model, caliber, capacity of this gun? I would greatly appreciate it.

You can't link images directly from your home PC. You need to use an image hosting website like Photobucket and link to that.

BTW I'm glad you said it was a revolver. I was about to think you were going to post that the serial number was S800xxx or something! :eek:





(BTW that's the serial number for a Singer M1911A1)

Nope. It works for you, because it is a LOCAL FILE stored on the C drive of your device. Unless we are somehow networked to your system/files, it cannot be viewed by us.
 
Iver Johnson "Cadet", Model 55S, made 1955-1960. The cylinder and cylinder pin are missing. Not a very valuable gun; they are "plinkers" and bring around $150-200 in like-new condition.

And you can do a search on the various gun auction sites to get an idea of relative value, but remember to only look at the ones that actually sold.
