What kind of grips?

What kind of grips do you use on your pistol or revolver, brand ,wood, rubber. why?
Pesonally I like rubber , reduces recoil and when my palms sweat I can hold it better.
 
A lifetime of working with my hands has left them hard, calused and none too flexible. What works for me is smooth wood without finger grooves. I'm kind of fond of Pau Ferro, it has a nice color that improves with age and use. Brand isn't nearly as important as fit. I'm also one of those rare people that the S&W target stocks accually fit. I do have a set of Pacmyer Compacts on my Detective Special. I've never found anything better on this gun.

Flyer, I've had good luck with the Hogue Mono Grips in the neoprene. They don't seem to be as "fat" as the Pachmyr grippers. I have long fingers and they fit the grips perfectly. They are on two Smiths I have, an 8 3/8" 686 and a 4" M66. I have a pair of Davis santoprene grips on a third Smith M19. They are about as slim as the Hogues but extend about 3/4" past the bottom of the grip frame.
Great for shooting prone or resting pistol on a rest for hunting.

Actually I have all kinds. When my stainless Redhawk goes afield I put on the neoprene Hogues and when it's at home or at the range it often wears one piece Hogue wood grips. Some of my revolvers wear wood while others wear rubber/neoprene. One of my 1911A1's has Kings Speedgrips and the other has rosewood grip panels. The 1911 is all original. Most of the older handguns are all original also. The Super Blackhawk has oversize Eagle grips but I'm not happy with them and am looking for a set of ironwood grips. My Vaqueros wear Ajax stag grips.

I like nice sharp checkering, as much as I can get - grips, frontstrap, and mainspring housing - Kim Ahrends makes the best grips for me. I'm partial to the ebony.
 
I'm particuarly fond of 1911 type pistols. On my Officer's ACP I have installed a Rosewood set of Slim-Tech stocks, which don't really have checkering but a design to duplicate the double diamond pattern. These are no snag stocks that work very well for carry and the width of the grip is slimmed to 1.06 inches. On my Kimber, I had Craig Spegel make me up a set of African Blackwood slimmed stocks. Required that the grip bushings and screws be slightly modified to accommodate the thinner stocks.
 
I'll go with Grayfox. Large factory target stocks; unless it's Ruger (too small even for my small hands). Finger grooves don't work for me since it displaces my fingers lower on the grip than comfortable for DA shooting.

On my Sig, factory.

On my 1911, chequered wood, preferably factory (cheap).

The only fancy grips I own are ivory which came with my Bob Chow 1911.
 
Lots of good ideas here, as you've noticed, Flyer, there is a lot of personal preference at play with grips.
My choice leans towards soft rubber, but not when the new grips make the area fatter than it is without them (ie- Glock slip on grip additions, I hate them).

For Glocks I like "Grip tape" stick on panels. I think the best thing they ever did was add the finger grooves and thumb shelves to the Glock grips.

I like the Pachmyr Gripper for the 1911, though I have checkered wood on a couple of my guns.

I like pachmyr on revlovers.

Worst grips in the world, IMHO, are the plastic ones on S&W third generation autos.

I like the Hogues... nice and soft... I like the finger groves too. Helps index better in a fast draw.
Try this for you Sig shooters out there...

Get the rubber hogue grips for the Sig, and a finger groove slip on as well. Take the old grips off, put the slip on over the frame, and then screw on the specific hogue grips for your gun... This gives the Sig some finger grooves and ads some meat to it as well. Works well for for all the Sigs, but especially well for the 220 and 225. I used this on my 220 and 228. I loved it. Would own a Sig with out doing this! Fits my paws nicely.

RobI know what you mean about the plastic grips on the s&w thats why I put hogue on my 915(which is the only one Igot now thanks to the #$@^bg's)
 
Houge Monogrips on my full sized autos (1911, BHP) Stock checkered grips (wood or plastic) on my compact pistols.

exotic wood target grips on my target pistols.

Smooth wood or ivorex on revolvers.
