i just got a bodygaurd m49 receintly and it came with the original small( and painful to shoot:( ) wood grips and a set of hogue rubber grips . the hogues bulk up the grip area a bit but are great to shoot with but i like the looks of the pachmyer compac rubber grip better . does anyone have a specific type of grip they like better than the other? does anyone have or use the pachmyer compac and do you like them? thanks for any info :D

This may not be a popular response but it works for me. I prefer the old style splinter grips for my J-frame with a Tyler 'T' grip. Not as pleasant to shoot as the rubber grips but the wood offers no drag against my pocket (where I normally carry it) and they have minimal bulk.

Smooth rosewood splinters W/T-grip on my M37 airweight. Tried rubber to sticky and bulky for pocket. If I go holster carry switch to Colt ick Special.

After trying several types of grips, I've reverted back to factory target grips on my sq. butt S&W revolvers. They feel right to me.
I have smooth wood finger groove grips on the one round butt I own. They fit my hand well, but are a tad slippery. I simply don't like rubber.

On double action, I like the factory Ruger grips or the factory S&W grips respectively. With the Ruger grips, I order the imitation ivory inserts that fit on the rubber grip sides.

On single action revolvers, I generally buy aftermarket Lett custom grips, usually either in black micarta or imitation ivory.

Pachmayr Compac Pro's on CCW revos, factory wooden target grips on most of the rest, except the M29 (Compac Signature) and the M625 (Factory RoundButt Pachs). I keep the safe queens as stock as possible.

I like these on my Mountain Gun.

Of course I like the feel of these also.

PRECISION GUN SPECIALTIES

On any revolver I carry concealed, I like Precision Gun Specialities Hideout grips. Solid black nylon. You can grind and sand them to shape...A soldering iron will give you great stippling, and they are cheap. Won't stick to your pocket/shirttail/pantsleg. I have them on a 642 and a 3" 65. look them up on Brownells if you can't find them anywhere else, they are kinda cult grips, not that many people seem to know about them.

I really like the boot grips I put on my j-frame. Small, easy to grip, comfy to shoot, no snag, looks good too.

I've always had Hogues on all mine. Bought a S&W model 57 that came with Pachmayers, didn't care for them and swapped them for Hogues.
Had a Hogue on my SP101, felt good but found the Uncle Mikes boot grips easier to carry.

If light weight is important to you, you probably won't like Pachmayr. I've never owned or held a Pachmayr gripped revolver or Semi-auto that wasn't made heavier by the grips.

I prefer Hogue on most pistols (and some rifles), but they are a bit sticky for pocket carry. The Uncle Mike's boot grips that came on my 642 are pretty much the same shape as the Hogue Bantams, but they're not as rubbery, and they don't snag at all in my pockets.

Perversely, I like the feel of Hogue monogrips, but my shooting peculiarities cause me to shoot poorly with most grip styles except small boot grips (tapering towards the butt). I don't like the feel of those.
I'm still searching for the ultimate grip.

I think I found mine - for 340PD anyway. Crimson Trace "overmolded". No just for laser aspect, but feels best of anything I've put on lots of j-frames.

Been shooting a couple of 1970's vintage Model 36's again lately and the wood grips that came on them also work for me. Actually far more rounds thru the Model 36s, but CT grip aquired ($ hurt) for 340 feels most "natural" now - and takes much of the bite out of the 357 loads. :D
