What kind of condition for price, please?

A local shop has a S70 Gold Cup National Match on consiegnment(spelling no idea). The price is 1850 tagged, seemed so ridiculous to me I payed no more attention. But to look at it threw glass. Then I started thinking what a new remake goes for and the one pre 70 I had. I shot that gun no problems at all, I could hit targets about as well with any of my Colts. But thing with Gold Cup stood out and still does, was reliability. I never had a single failure with that 1968 National Match.

Ok question is what do you think of pricetag. And what condition would gun have to be?
 
I'll also add that current production Colts are quality guns and are covered under the manufacturer's warranty so you shouldn't have to worry too much about getting a dog if you buy new.
 
If it's merely a "nice gun", then something closer to $1000-$1200 is more reasonable.
There is a new Colt Series 70 Gold Cup, limited edition distributed by Talo, with a list price in the $1800 range, and that may have been what you saw?

It is also possible the gun has been through the shop of a "name recognized" gunsmith, the kind who sells their custom gun for $2k and up. IF so, it might be worth the asking price.

But, word of mouth isn't enough. If there's no paperwork saying it was done, then it "wasn't done".

Could also be just a high price, in the hopes some well heeled fellow will pay it, no questions asked....
 
Thanks much for replies all. The gun is an original S70 and looked pretty good in all ways. Original blue, parts, grips, markings. But, as stated it's a very high price. And I would demand original box and papers that price. Anyway, I don't believe I want to put that money out of my already limited account. I would need layaway for a month at least. It would have to be real special. Did'nt look further. Also as stated and I agree, Colt is making real good stuff right now. Again thank you all replies, I will write further if my interest or actions do in this particular gun.:cool:
 
Ok I did buy the remake S70 and Haven't fired a single shot though it. My stainless is a beast having over 350 rounds and many hollow points in mix from different brands. But I love gold cup as a queen no less. But the 1991 is really a beast. Bought over two months ago sorry age of thread.
