What kick are you on right now?

From time to time my taste will change, and I'll start to get into a certain category of guns and really focus on that one genre till I learn everything I can.

Like right now I'm on a AR kick. I've never owned an AR until last year, since then I've built one, bought two, got an AR10 and just bought an upper and I'm looking at building another lower.

Before the AR kick, I got into DA/SA handguns. Especially Sigs, but also the Beretta 92/M9, HK USP and CZ's. I went from no double/single handguns a couple years ago to 7 now. And to this day the SIG P226 is hands down my favorite handgun.

So what kick are you on right now?

Correcting mistakes/annoyances, and building projects to fill gaps where no production rifle will make me happy (or doesn't exist... or is out of my price range).

The "correcting mistakes" and fixing "annoyances" category has a lot of work attributed to it ...and I don't even have most of the barrels and/or receivers needed for everything, yet.

So, I guess you could look at it another way:
Fine tuning and customizing.

For some reason, lever guns are tickling my fancy right now.

I just bought my first one last month, a Winchester 94 Carbine in 30-30, nothing special or a "pre-64" and it is in "shooter" condition, but that is exactly what I wanted. For some reason lever guns have been calling to me for the last 6 months or so, and I wanted to pick up a modestly priced shooter to see if it was something I would truly be interested in.

Turns out it is, and I am actively looking to add one in 357 Mag and 44 Mag now:D

I'm building cased sets of guns,,,

For a while I was into buying matching rimfire/centerfire pairs,,,
I put together eleven pairs and I really enjoy them.

Now I'm into pairing a rifle and handgun(s) into range sets.

For example I have a Henry Acu Bolt rifle in stainless,,,
I matched it to a stainless Charter Arms Pathfinder,,,
And just for grins I added a .44 Special Bulldog.

I have an old (but great shape) Mossberg 340 KC target rifle,,,
I paired it with a nice 6" Barrel H&R target revolver,,,
They are both 1950's vintage American guns,,,
Very accurate with post war craftsmanship.

I have a pair of scoped H&R single-shot rifles,,,
One is chambered in .22 LR and the other for .357 Magnum,,,
I have them paired up with a pair of Colt Mk-III Troopers in the same calibers

I put them all in a rifle case which I line,,,
Along with earmuffs/earplugs and shooting glasses,,,
I also enclose some ammo, a cleaning rod, and a multi-tool.

Right now I'm trying to stuff a Beretta NEOS Carbine,,,
Along with two more NEOS pistols and barrels,,,
Into a hard shell dreadnaught guitar case.

I did successfully use a ukulele case,,,
For two nickel Bersa Thunder pistols in .22 and .380.

One of my favorite rifle/pistol sets,,,
Is the one you might call the silliest of the bunch.

I found an old but not ragged tweed rectangular guitar case at a flea market,,,
Inside it you will find two Daisy Spittin' Image Winchester rifles,,,
And two Daisy Spittin' Image Colt style revolvers.

Why do I do this you might ask,,,
Because I want to and it pleases me to do so,,,
It will also make things very easy for the executor of my will.

I like shooting my guns and do get a lot of range time,,,
But I also like the collectors aspect as well,,,
And if I am going to have a collection,,,
I might as well make it a unique one.

My kick right now

Completing my AR pistol build, finding the "perfect" handload for my 1911's & AR rifle. The build will be a lot quicker to accomplish.

I'm thinking of adding another 22TCM pistol.
I already own the 5" double stack version and it's a breeze to shoot, which is remarkable considering it develops more energy than. 45acp.
Now RIA introducing a smaller, lighter single stack 4.25" version.
I want one for EDC.

Recently I have been spending most of my extra cash on ammunition. I have never been the type to keep much ammo on hand and I am trying to change that.

Lately, put me in the AR category. I had one already, set up for benchrest styles shooting.

Then I bought a Colt 6920 recently, and got back into buying mags, looking at optics if I go that way, slings, ammo, spare parts kits, the whole shebang.

I never owned a Colt before, and thought I'd correct that. Very nice rifle, and hopefully I'll get to shoot it soon. The weather is pretty bad, but it may warm up some this weekend.

It has iron sights, with a Magpul fold down rear sight. Pictinny rail flat top so optics won't be a problem if I decide to buy one. I want to shoot it with iron sights to see how it does before buying an optic.

You just can't beat AR prices at this moment in time. Plan accordingly.

I'm always in DA/SA pistol kick. I have a striker-fired pistol and a DAK pistol and they're both extremely practical, but I really only own them because there isn't a DA/SA pistol as tiny or as lightweight as some of the Striker-Fired and DAO/DAK offerings. I just really guns that can be carried unlocked and uncocked.

Shooting authentic black powder 45 Colt loads out of my SAA clones. 40 grns of 3Fg Olde Eynsford under a 250 grn lead slug.

The kick I'm on is going to be thinning out all parts, accessories, ect that I'm
never going to use and invest proceeds in older model guns made of blue steel
and walnut. No plastic, fiberglass or stainless. These new guns are just going to
be used implements, probably never have any value other than shooters.

I grew up learning all my basics shooting .22's but was never much enamored with them. Now in my late 60's I'm on a new .22 magnum and .17 HMR kick.

They're bringing me a whole new rimfire ballgame that's taken me quite by surprise... I'm finding them really fun and well worth the extra $.

For me it's been exclusively milsurp rifles for the past couple of years. Milsurp firearms are definitely what I enjoy collecting the most. I smell a shotgun "kick" coming soon though.
