I just got a new gun out of layaway, not looking for collector value since someone installed Wilson sights and new stocks. I would like to know however, exactly what I hold, just for history's sake. It's a M1911 A1, United States Property marked, No 2625872. It's a Remington Rand, stamped on the left side of the slide in two lines, Remington Rand Inc. Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A. The Frame is also Remington I believe, stamped FJA inspectors stamp for Col Atwood. There is a P proof mark below the mag release, none on the slide. Gun's finish appears to match, don't believe it has been re-finished, holster wear, but not much, shoots great too. To the rear of the right stock panel there is half a stamp that maybe appears to be a croosed cannons ordnance mark. Blends off into the finish, Maybe struck on an angle? All other stamps are distinct. My main confusion is that info I have found indicates that the last pistol Remington Rand produced was No 2465139.
