What is your favorite custom / design revolver(s)?

I'm curious to see what people's tastes are as to what their favorite custom (and/or customized) revolvers are. It would fascinating to see the difference from production with stock parts. It doesn't have to be one that is owned - just pics would be nice to look at, especially if it's people's "grails". :) Also, by "design" I mean if you don't actually have a finished one or have reference to a custom piece, but rather have only an image created, that would be nice to look at, too. Thanks in advance!

Well, if you can open it up to 'what is your favorite style' regardless of whether it has to be custom or not, then it's my recent acquisition, the 629-4 Hunter II:

While it is 100% stock, there is no custom I can imagine that I would prefer. Most of my revolver dreams over the years have been a 'custom' that looks like this one. So, to put it another way, if money were no object, this is the one I'd have built if it weren't already available.

I hope that doesn't spoil the party--this is as 'custom' as it will ever get for me and as custom as I would ever want. At least for now.

The demise of PPC shooting has lead to a decline in prices for many of the highly customized PPC revolvers which show up on the used market. Usually set up with a sight rib, like Bomar, a special barrel, converted to a triple lock, and with an action set up for double action shooting.

The guns had to keep the "ten" at 50 yards. You would be hard pressed to do any better with a Mulhouse Manurhin MR73 or a Korth.

Just looking at it, my ideal revolver wouldn't, at first, look much different than a stock, perfectly in-spec 6-shot 4" K-frame model 66-5 or L-frame model 686-5 (frame-mounted firing pin, a newer style cylinder release latch and no recessed chambers).

Upon closer inspection, though, you'd see it was rendered DAO, with a 7lb DA trigger pull. The action (pull and return) glassy smooth enough to balance a coin on the barrel on it's edge while cycling the action . You'd find it reliably shot anything it was fed, and with target loads, was consistently capable of no more than 3/4" groups @ 25 yards.

Inspecting it even closer, you'd see it had the following goodies:

- DAO hammer (Apex, or one I modified myself)
- Narrowed, radiused and polished smooth trigger
- Weigand Interchangeable front sight base with red HiViz FO front sight
- Millett adjustable rear sight
- Uncle Mike's conversion grips
- Cylinder machined to accept moonclips or speedloader-fed rounds
- A properly-installed ball detent at the front of the yoke, and removal of the retaining plunger that locks at the front of the ejector rod.
- The spring behind the yoke screw plunger replaced with a solid fitted pin

I've got nearly all these, but not on a single gun. One of these days, I'll pull it all together.

I've got a few custom revolvers but my favorite is my Krebs Custom .45ACP S&W M28 "CROWBAR". In addition to the caliber conversion the gun has had many custom modifications and is one of the few revolvers (if not the only one) built by custom gunsmith Marc Krebs of 1911 and AK fame. This gun always makes me think of what a modern day gunfighter might carry if autos hadn't become so popular.
