What is this?

picked up this smith at an auction, it don't say what model it is anywhere on the gun that i can see, and not knowing much about smiths i was wondering if anyone could tell me what model it is. the only identifing markings besides the S&W seal and the manufacture information is on the barrel, it says " S&W ..357 Magnum. It's really a nice little gun, i'm just curious on what i have. if any of you guys could tell me or point me towards a place i could find out that would be great, thanks- bigjake

Hello,
the model number will be on the inside of the frame. Open the cylinder and it will be on the left side of the frame below the barrel.

BTW, it looks like a 19 but I am no S&W expert either.
 
1. Open the cylinder.

2. Look at the frame under the barrel inside the yoke cut-out. The "yoke" is the part the cylinder is attached to that swings out when you open the cylinder.

3. Look for some numbers. There should be something like "19" or 19 with a dash (-) and then another number, like "19-3."

4. There will also be a serial number starting with a letter, or several letters, and then some numbers. You should find the same number stamped on the butt after you remove the grips.

5. Post this information and someone will be able to help you more.

I'd say it is worth between $250-350 depending on your area (prices vary depending on location). It looks like it is in excellent condition, I wouldn't take less than $250 for it if it were me.

P.S., people here seem to like the S&W 19 so maybe you could put it in the "for sale" section of this site if you are selling it.
 
hehehe.... naw i think i'll be hangin onto this piece, if that traitor taft ever signs the ccw thing into law (which isn't likley since hes sleepin with the enemy), i'm seriously considering this for a carry gun. just has a nice feel to it, came with pacmyrs and i just love the thing
