What is this Mateba semiauto revolver?

I saw this .44 magnum 6 shot semiauto revolver in Guns this month. The lowest charge hole lines up with the barrel to provide a low bore axis. It has a slide. There was very little information on it, mostly a large picture. I found almost nothing on the Internet, except it also comes in 9 mm and .357 magnum.

I've seen them advertised in the Shotgun News. They look like revolvers which cock the hammer back after every round, similar to a semi auto. The other big difference, as you noted, was that the gun shoots from the bottom of the cylinder (rather than the top as in most revolvers) to lower the bore axis for recoil. They look curious, but bulky. Might be a nice addition to a collection, but not something I'd want to carry.

I saw these things at the Shot Show this year. They are butt ugly guns. Don't know how well they operate though.

I was intrigued enough by the ads in Shotgun News to ask my local dealer to find out how much they were.
They wanted $899 for the 4" .357.
Other than adding it to your collection as an oddity, I can't really see much use for it.
I'll bet that finding a holster for that thing ain't so easy either!

All I can say is ya gotta shoot one! Looks ungainly, but handles fine.Almost no muzzle rise. The .44 mag recoils like a .357 N frame S&W .With full house .44mag loads. Beautiful workmanship.

I don't know, it strikes me as being kind of fun if you've got lots of money to spend.

And everybody needs at least one gun, which when pulled out at range, causes everyone to say "What the heck is that thing?" :)
