I recently received a hand gun that belonged to my great great grandmother. It was purchased by my great great great grandfather some time after the cival war. It has alabaster or ivory grip the gun is etched. The only markings I can find on it is the word Nero above the barrel and the word patent on the barrel. the barrel length is about 2 inches and appears to be a .22 calebar. It is a seven shot with no trigger guard and looks very similar to a colt new line .22 Any ideas?

Sure, I have all kinds of ideals but my wife won't go along with most of them, oh you mean about your pistol? I believe your pistol was made by Jacob Rupertus ( Used both Hero and Nero) of Philadelphia. Made 1870s to 1880s. Estimated 1000 made, Value in .22 rimfire, Exc, ( in very good shape )250, Good-100. Hope that helps you.

Thanks a bunch, I have spent days looking on the internet for any clues, you have been very helpfull. Most appreciative
