What is this and where can I get a firing replica? Looks awesome.

It is a big gray square gun

In other words, the pic didn't attach properly:eek:, try reposting the pic :D

Oh, yes it did, it was just very slow arriving:o

I believe that is a 'pepper box' a predecessor to the revolvers we know and luv today. It opperates just like a revolver (with no forcing cone/flashgap issues, coz there aint none)

I dont know of any reproductions, you might only be able to get a real one, but I could be wrong. A guy at my collectors club bought one in for 'show and tell' he said they never cought on, very heavy for size (especially muzzle heavy) and I believe the early ones weren't rifled. Thats why they are multi shot/barrel.... so you had SOME chance of hitting what you were aiming for :D

Would luv to see one made into a mini Dillon Minigun.... how cool would that be :D

Remington Zig-Zag.

No replicas made that I know of. Keep an eye out for an original,
they do exist. Prepare to part with some serious cash.

If you don't need the zig-zag feature, I'm pretty sure I've seen
pepperbox replicas.

Yep, Remington Zig-zag. So-called because of the zig and zag line that a stud runs in.
Push the trigger ring out, the barrel revolves to battery. Pull the trigger ring back, it fires.
Remington actually made a number of small guns way back when, finally culminating in the double derringer over and under .41 caliber. On a lot of the Remington's, that saw handle grip was a fairly standard thing. Compare it to the little cap-fired gun that is available as a reproduction nowadays. I think Cabela's sells the little guns if you look them up.
Many people carried small hide-out guns for personal protection and manufacturers were always trying something new or different to get the public to buy. In an era of one-two or four shot (Sharps) derringers, a 6-shot was a good idea, two better.

Notice the nipple chambers are enclosed. These guns were famous for chain fires, part of the reason they never 'caught on'.

I think Dixie has a replica of a little Remington single shot parlor pistol. It is not a rotating barrel gun, being a single shot with a movable breech block. But it has that funky Remington grip frame profile, anyway. They are kinda neat and made to be shot across the parlor at small targets or something. I have seen originals for sale and the replicas. Someone was making a simple sort of pepperbox revolving pistol replica, I think Dixie has them. They may be only 4 shots and smoothbored, like the originals.

"Notice the nipple chambers are enclosed. These guns were famous for chain fires, part of the reason they never 'caught on.'"

The Zig Zag used .22 Short rimfire ammunition.

It was NOT a cap and ball pepperbox.

If you look at the picture in Wikipedia, it shows the revolver with its original box.

VERY interesting illustration in the lid - an American flag with the legend "Death to Traitors"

That was a common rallying cry in the North during the early part of the Civil War.
