This is an old .22 rifle that was my grandpa's. It's single shot as you can tell and the only markings on it are 'cal .22lr'. Anyone have any ideas? Also the stock isn't the original, the stock on it was made by my grandpa and wired on. He was crafty that way. :D

This is just a wild-@$$ guess,,,

But by it's shape I would say it's a Martini-Henry of some type.

It's really just a wild guess though,,,
Don't quote me as an authority.

I just wanted to get my guess in,,,
Before someone knowledgable answers in truth.

Exactly what a co-worker said today. "Looks like a little Martini-Henry."

All I know is the rifling is surprisingly sharp and it's as accurate as my 10/22. I can hit dimes at range with it until I can't see the dime anymore. I'm truly baffled by this rifle, but very glad I have it.

It kind of looks similar to an old Ithica single shot 22 that I have seen. They were a single shot that worked a lot like a Martini, but had a loop style lever similar to a Winchester. They also had a mock magazine tube to make them look like a western style rifle. Can't remember the model name ......

Ithica saddlegun not

Its not an Ithica, the lever forward on the side of the reciver rules that out.

Could be some type of cadet Martini, w/ field mods over the many years.

Typical barn rifle condition, wish it could talk!

\It looks like a Martini cadet action with a replacement lever an stock from an American gun. which is why every one is having a hard time identifying it

The Mossberg Model L I think is the winner...

picture from google.

Thanks Remchester!

30-30 has it.
It is indeed a Mossberg Model L.
Made from 1929-1932.

Not an Ithaca, not a Cadet.

Grandpa may have been crafty, but he was kind of crude.

Looks like 3030remchester nailed it.

I googled also and found this picture

I think that 3030remchester was the first identifier.

Nice call my friend.

And a poor farmer with 8 children... He used what he had, doesn't make him crude.

Second question, what's the lever for? I was told it had to do with ejecting but it's never had a problem (as long as I can remember) ejecting and I've never touched it while firing.

Yeah I'm a little late but it is a Mossberg Model L

The piece I have high lighted (which I suspect is the lever causing all sorts of confusion) is a barrel release lever, yes it's a take down rifle.

I know which one your talking about and it's called the barrel lock lever, if you rotate it forward you can separate the barrel from the action making it easier to store or transport.
