What is the Point

Ever heard of IM arms? I think we can file this under "Bad Ideas."
The company manufactures over and under (yes thats right) Sub-machine guns.
I quote from the webpage:
"The new submachine gun, with dual barrels over and under, is designed for special combat operations in military and law enforcement agencies. The unique construction utilizes two barrels fed from two separate magazines; one which is located in the pistol grip and the other in a forward grip, spaced from each other to give the gun better balance and control. Firing is from the closed bolt function. The weapon has a selector for safety, semi-auto or full-auto.
Another uniqueness of this gun from other in its class is the top barrel is longer and suitable for long range shooting, under barrel is short and is better for shorter range. Both barrels work in timing sequence on full or semiautomatic. This gun will have an important role in the future because it has more advantages than a regular gun and greater efficency in fire power. With this gun you will never miss the target. The gun has a selector for one or duble-barrel action. A great innovation to this gun is the special sights which allow for more visibility and lock on the target.
The high tech I.M. submachine gun was invented by Ion Mihaita from Cleveland Ohio"

..Im somehow not instilled with confidence in the product. :-)

Sights that lock on so you never miss your target? Cool. ;) I want one. Sounds like the gun from 5th Element.

Seriously though, I wounder if there is any real reason for a double barrel subgun?

Great. Now you can miss your target and waste your ammo twice as fast with a gun that weighs twice as much and will break down twice as often.

Iron sights that lock on the target, and you will never miss? Sounds like a gun designed by a marketing department.

Someone mention it to Jeff Cooper so it has a chance of winning his annual Waffenpösselhaft award for most absurd gun. (Current contenders are the "Siamese Sig" and the .50 BMG barrel for an AR-15.)

"Sights that lock on" Talk about positive spin... I could understand if these weapons were just an engineering exercise, but no... this IS the product.
Tell you what, Im going to write an E-mail to these guys and see if I can't get more information.

Ctdonath: Amen, definatly a Waffenpösselhaft candidate.

Every once in a while, a guy who can't get to sleep comes up with what he is sure is a great idea.

In most cases, dawn brings reality. But sometimes...

The idea of a two-barreled CQB weapon is not new and not forcibly bad.
One 9mm or 10mm barrel, and one 10 gauge barrel (for rubber
projectiles, small grenades etc) wouldn't be that bad either.

Or, if we have an overpenetration problem, pair a 10mm and a .22 lr.
