What is the Navy Seal's Battle Rifle?

In this weeks issue of Time magazine there is a picture of a what is supposed to be a Navy Seal. On page 27 of the 10/01/2001 edition.

The Seal pictured is carrying what is most probably a H&K G3 battle rifle in 7.62 NATO.

The question: Is this accurate?

The M4 is the standard long gun for the teams. Personal preference and mission may allow deviations at times, but the M4 is SOP. The M14 would probably be next in line.

Back in the late '80's, the SEALs I saw running around used MP5's for shipboard work. They sometimes used our ship for training purposes while tied up to the pier in San Diego.

Back then, most of the Navy was still using hand-me-down GI .45's, beat to hell 870's and M-14's for small arms. I understand the SEALs were not entirely unhappy with the M-14's, however ;)

From what I understand the only 7.62x51mm issued to the teams is the M14. It might be a G3 pictured because I doubt the popular media knows the difference between a SEAL and a member of Germany's Bundeswehr :(
