What is the most restrictive city, county or state regarding gun rights?

My vote goes to Chicago as the most restrictive public area in the United States as far as gun control.

Handguns are banned, Semi-auto rifles are banned, shotguns must be registered, there are no firearms stores or gun clubs allowed within city limits and the state has banned the use of SS109 green tip .223 rounds.

Couple this with the high crime rate and an egomaniac mayor and you have got to wonder why anyone whould want to live there.

Chicago's good, but not great when it comes to NASTY laws... The handgun ban has only been since 1982, and they give you 10 days to to register/turn in any weapons when you move there. They also recognize FOPA. Good news for travelers.

DC. Handgun ban since 1976. (Great year!) All weapons must be stored dis assembled, with ammo seperate. And ghod help you if you get pulled over on the beltway while moving with your Glocks/AR's....

Places that "SAY" you can own guns;
hmm...
NJ. Fake CCW. They say you can, IF, they say okay, and I've not known ANYONE who has an unrestricted CCW in NJ. No Hollowpoints for mortals. No nasty 15rd mags.

Mass. Whelp, Handguns are pretty much gone. 1 year MANDATORY sent. for every gun/ROUND in possession, without a LTC/FOID. Lets discuss what that brick of .22's will get you...

hmm CA/NY/HI and any state without CCW are also on my NO VISIT list....

not only are all handguns Illegal the Citizens do not have a representative in the Congress or the Senate.

quote:
NOTE: The District of Columbia has two sets of laws applicable to firearms. One, passed by Congress, is part of the D.C. Code (Section 22:3201-3217) and regulates the
purchase, possession and carrying of firearms. A newer law, passed in 1976 by the D.C. City Council requires all firearms to be registered, all owners to be licensed, and
prohibits the sale of new handguns. It also prohibits anyone from bringing a handgun into the District or transporting a handgun through the city.[/quote]

I second the motion with regard to NJ being the most restrictive STATE. When I lived there, it was absolutely insane -- which is one of the reasons why I left and I can't imagine that it got any better since I've been away.

The easiest way to check this is just check which cities have the highest murder and crime rates. Those citys have the worst gun rights violations.

In the US, I nominate New Dork City, which has added local restrictions on top of the State's Sullivan Law. Some time when you have a week to spare, call NYPD and ask what you have to do to get a carry permit.

Represa, CA.

Of course, the town consists SOLELY of Folsom Prison, but dang are they touchy about firearm possession.

:D

I would agree either chicago or new york.
I go to a jeweler in chicago and I feel safe there, you know why? He has a gun!

The Big Apple, forget about carry permits, handgun licenses are very time consuming and use of the gun is highly restricted. Rifles and shotguns are registered and the license takes six months to process.

And every wiseguy wannabe on the street has a gun!

Washington, DC. Without a doubt. Hands down.

Gun Control: The proposition that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her own panty hose, is more acceptable than allowing that same woman to defend herself with a firearm.

As far as countries go, I suggest Jamaica -- or perhaps Indonesia, where possession of even a fired cartridge case gets you a mandatory death penalty. (My source for this is the Australian Broadcasting Commission -- so it could be true or w-a-y off beam ;))

Blast!! Just realised it says "county" and not "country" in the header. Gotta learn to wear my specs more often ... grumble ... mumble

David: Sure, ask NYPD; Just don't expect to get an honest answer. At least according to what I read in National Review, by someone who went through the process. Not only are the procedures insane, but they deliberately try to get you to make a mistake. (Like asking you to promise to go to a range to practice at least three times a month, when the permit is only good for TWICE a month!)

Don, all I know about Morton Grove is that you can't possess handguns at all. I believe this was passed in 1981.

Weirdest inconsistency over borders: MA and VT; MA and NH; MA and ME.

MA is probably the second most restrictive state in the country, and borders the least: VT. The state constitution not only says every citizen has a right to carry, but that that right cannot ever be challenged in the state (I am waiting for federal gun legislation to crunch up against the VT constitution -- we will see this before the US Supreme Court).

NH is almost as open, with a permit required only for concealed carry, and that a "shall issue" per state law.

And finally, whenever anyone starts the litany of lies about the bloodbath caused by guns -- mention Vermont, where concealed carry is the constitutional right, and where gun violence is among the lowest in the country. I love seeing Liberals turn purple when you hiy them with that one.
