What is the difference

i have heard all of these people hyping over a G19 and a G18. honestly what is the difference between them. I really see no diffence once so ever. I'm confused

G18: full size, select fire 9mm
G17: full size, semi auto 9mm
G19: compact, semi auto 9mm
G26: sub-compact, semi auto 9mm

The 18's would be fun, but are basically unavailable.

I've never understood the hype about the 19's. The 17's are only slightly larger, carry more ammo, offer an increase in power with the extra barrel length, and are just as easy to carry and conceal. If you want something smaller, the 26 makes more sense, but its really not all that small either.

same thing that happened to WD-1 through WD-39...they got it right on the 40th try. :)

Seriously, though, I would guess that the Glock 17 was named after it's round count, and that practice was abandoned as subsequent nodels would be seen as "lesser", so there was only one way to go...onward and upward.

Just a guess, but it has precedent in other industries....

so, what ever happened to glocks 1-16?
AFAIK Gaston Glock sequentially numbered all of his designs, regardless of whether they're guns or not. Since he was originally in the military entrenching tool (i.e. shovel) business, several of the initial Glock numbers are folding shovels.

Seriously. I'm not making this up. You can order one today!

Oh yeah, this is one of the reasons why people originally pooh-poohed the Glock handgun.

G18: full size, select fire 9mm
G17: full size, semi auto 9mm
G19: compact, semi auto 9mm
G26: sub-compact, semi auto 9mm
G17: full size, semi auto 9mm (4.5" barrel)
G17L: full size, semi auto, longslide (6" barrel) 9mm
G18: full size, select fire 9mm (4.5" barrel)
G19: compact, semi auto 9mm (4" barrel)
G26: sub-compact, semi auto 9mm (3.5" barrel)
G34: full size, semi auto, practical/tactical length (5.3") 9mm

And yes, Gaston Glock's 17th patent was regarding the GLOCK 17.

Most people, myself included feel the mid size 19 just fits the hand better. The hump on the backstrap is in a different place. They only hold 2 less rounds and full size G17 mags or even the longer G18 mags holding 33 rounds can be used in the 19. They are a compromise in carryability, but I have always felt I could conceal a 19 as easily as a 26. As far as accuracy is concerned I have noticed no real world difference between the 19 or 17. Kinda like Goldilocks and the 3 bears. The 19 is just right.

If Glock's model numbers go in order of his patents, what's the G24? That's the only hole I can find in their model line between 17 and 36.
