What is The Best Rifle Front Sight

My Ruger 77-357 came with a bead sight. The first day at the range it disappeared due to the sun. This is my first rifle so I immediately changed it to a blade like my pistols. The blade is good except that it is big and at 100 yards it is to big for the target. Now I'm thinking about a fiber sight. So I'm looking for opinions, what shape or type is your favorite front sight? My rear sight is a Skinner adjustable aperture which is great. Thanks.

With aperture sight I have always found the simple blade to be best. Back edge
serrated to cut glare. You should be able to find the width to suit you. To many
shooters think the finer the blade the better, not always so. I have tried the
Fiber optic type may be good under low light conditions, but not in good light.
To brite for me. I have several rifles with reciever sights, all with blades except
a 22 with insert type front. I'm 64 with bifocals and they work good for me.

I will take a Lyman Globe sight every time. They give you the most accurate sight picture with a rear peep sight. I have three rifles with them.

2 preferences:

For full daylight target work, I love a nice square blade, blackened with soot so that it's BLACK. A globe sight is perfection, but only with round black targets.

I have a Winchester 92 in 25-20 that I've been taking out for small game recently. I epoxied about 3/8" long 0.020" of fiber optic on it (took some careful work and prep). It's awesome. Not too bright, even in full sun. For general purpose, I'd look hard at the Williams fire sights.

My opinion on this has evolved somewhat between my initial shooting experiences at about age 8 and my current 66 years.

Wonder what could have possibly changed over the years…….hhhmmmmmm…..

Must be the rifles fault…yeh, that's it…...

When I hunted in the woods with open or receiver sights, my favorite was the small ivory-beaded Marbles front sight. Hooded or globe front sights are great on the range, but hell in the woods.

If your eyes are young, with great depth of field, a receiver sight system may be fine.

There were fiber optic sights on my pellet rifle that were soon taken off. I couldn't use them. A low-powered scope was the ticket.

Today, being used to scopes and the capabilities that they have, make them the best system for all-around use. A 1-5x gives clarity, great field of view, and, if mounted low, a more accurate and faster sighting system than anything else I've tried.

Red dot sights are great in good light, but in shadows, make it darker, so harder to see small targets. At longer ranges, accuracy is not as good as with a scope, even a 2X.

I have decided to try a globe type sight. It is on order now from Adorama. Thanks for all the good advice. By the way, I am 76 and with glasses, my eyes are still pretty good. :)

Best front sight ??

You realize of course it's a personal choice and subjective; that being said, I prefer a rear peep sight with a 1/16" gold bead up front, (lever guns) second choice: is a V-blade or U-notch rear blade with a partridge blade up front (milsurps). I also sight my guns to shoot 3" high @ 100 = I hold at the bottom of a 6" dot to hit dead center, which puts me 2"-3" low @ 150 or 2"-4" low @ 200 (depending on caliber) which is as far as I will shoot without a scope.
