a couple months ago i saw the Mossberg 464 spx lever action .30-30...IMHO it bout made me puke  ....... then yesterday i saw the mossberg 500 Chainsaw  oh my... I didnt really want to but i asked to hold it anyhow, IMO i bet that plastic wrap handle would bust in half if you a heavy round through it... Anyhow is there actually a market for these things? does anyone have one or tried one? Am i the only one who questions mossberg when i see stuff like this?

Nobody ever went broke marketing to morons.

That being said, their little .223 bolt gun that takes AR15 magazines seems kind of clever.

What is Mossberg doing?

What Mossberg is doing is selling guns. Since that kind of crap appeals to some people, Mossberg is making money selling it to them.

The scary thing is that a few decades from now, that kind of thing might bring big bucks as "collector items".

I never had a gun too ugly to shoot. I don't like guns too pretty to shoot.
This gun (evil black lever gun} falls into category one. Reminds me of the cowboy guns I've rescued, you know, ones that bounce around behind the pickup seat for a couple of years.
This looks like it was made for that application. Let's face it, some dogs get beat. I sure as hell wouldn't feel put out if it got a little mud on it, or even if I slid down the mountain on it. That dog will hunt.

I don't know why people bash these guns. Think about it, you show up to the range with that and everybody id going to wonder what it is and look at it and shoot it. It really is cool. Sure, there is some idiot out there that truly believes that it is a great defense weapon and that he needs it. If i had a gun collection that needed something different and I had money to spend just for the heck of it, id probably buy one just for fun.

This is at least the 5th time someone has posted "OMG like wat iz mozzberg do-wen?"

I agree that mossbergs latest lineup has been a little on the ugly and impractical side but with the video game generation reaching the age of being able to purchase a gun, lever actions and pump actions are being left at the wayside in exchange for the semi auto tacticool guns that they see on call of duty. mossberg has been making these monstrosities in an effort to appeal to the next generation of shooting enthusiasts.

I kindof welcome the idea of an updated lever action complete with folding stock(not telescoping stock) a 1913 rail for optics(not on the bottom and sides) and a box magazine so that you are open to a wider range of calibers other than 30-30, 357, 44mag, 45LC and 45-70. even though mossberg went about the SPX in a horrible way they did get other companies moving, marlin now offers a 1913 rail for some of their lever guns allowing for flip up sights and other optics.

If you're going to build a bolt rifle in .223, it makes perfect sense to have it use AR magazines. I've been wishing that Savage would make a bolt gun that would take standard magazines, for example, AR mags for .223 length cartridges and FAL or M14 mags for the .308 cartridges.

As far as that tricked-out levergun, I can't see myself using one, but I hope Mossberg sells them by the train-load. I really do.

I just google'd the Chainsaw, and I've got to say that it is truly special purpose shotgun. So special purpose that I don't think I'll be ordering one. Still, I hope it is a resounding success.

I think the "tactical" .30-30 would work well as a woods gun, not so much as a "black gun." I like Mossberg and what they are doing. The "Flex" shotgun system seems like a greart idea as well as some of their other "new" products as noted above.

The lever gun that won't go away,

So many threads on this one, it was kinda funny at first. But now the more times it's brought up, the more useful the gun seems. I think it's a perfect hog gun. It's got rails for lights, hog hunting is usually in the dark. You can scope it, again, hog hunting is at night. 30-30 is good to go on hogs. Adjustable stock may be useful too.

Since this gun has been making appearances on this forum, mini14 bashing has gone way down lol

video game generation reaching the age of being able to purchase a gun
More like finally getting a few years into the workforce with some extra money. Been playing Battlefield 3 on XBOX 360 and you know what I learned? Aiming in video games is no longer easier than aiming in real life. I'm pretty much stuck with NOOB CANNONS(shotguns).

What rifle is it that uses AR mags? I have not come to an understanding as to why firearms companies don't use "standard" mags. They might make a ton off the mags they sell, but hardly anyone buys extra of the non-standard. Amazes me the people who have defensive pistols with only the one or two mags they came with.

Firearms companies in general are making a lot of money. If you can pull in 1% of the market you can have a very successful company. I also think mossberg rifles are totally contract guns they have nothing invested in. Not sure about that though. Even if not, think how little had to be invested to produce that variant.

If it sells for them, hey have at it, but I do think it discredits them with the more traditional gun crowd just a little, but then again Mossberg the traditional gun crowd has never given them much credit anyway......I hope they sell ship loads!

traditional in what sense?
THose in the gun crowd who want to limit white tail hunting to blued flintlocks with wood furniture, or those who have been traditionally included in the gun crowd?

You know those that don't go along with the notion that the AR is now the "MODERN SPORTING ARM" use your imagination for the rest of those types...lol

It's funny I hunt alone.... I never get any grief about any gun I decide to use..... When I shoot... I shoot alone, so no one cares what's in the rifle case at the range, cause I ain't there.

I could put a hello kitty sticker on them and no one would ever see it.... And I could look at it and smile whenever I want.
