What is known about Arcus handguns?

Lately a curious pistol has been popping up on the net and in
my catalogs. Arcus is the company..I have seen a HP copy
and a couple of others. They are a 9mm, two tone and have
a wrap around grip, similar to a hogue. They are made in
Bulgaria. The price is very reasonable...Which is what makes me
curious...you get what you pay for. But once in a while a great
gun comes along for a lower price...like CZ's. Any experiences
would be insightful...Shoot well

ut83,

I always thought they were made in Israel... :(

Anyway, though I have no first hand experience with them, I have been told by someone who claimed to have one that the only weak spot is the extractor. He didn't elaborate.
He also said he was having problems getting some JHPs to feed, unless they had a rounded ogive.

I'll talk with him again and if I get any more info, I'll toss you a note.

BTW, I believe FAC is selling them dirt cheap still.

The Arcus is Bulgerian. From what I have read here on TFL and from other forums and from the samples I have inspected, the Hi-Power copy is very good overall. I've been meaning to buy one but have yet to getting around to do it.

I had intended to ask this same question (sort of) today, after I learned that the SEARCH FUNCTION DOESN'T WORK

Anyway.... I've found four models so far...

The 94 and 94C which is the Hi-Power clone, and a compact version.

The one that has interested me though, was the 98DA... It's a DA/SA version of the HP... Trouble is, I can't find one of these for sale anywhere. Any thoughts on the 98? Know where I might get one?

FYI, the 4th one was the 98DAC, DA/SA version of the 94C.

If I wasn't already in the market for a DA/SA 9mm with readily available 15+ round mags, I'd be buying myself one of these 94's. I've never owned a BHP, but I've fired 2 (both .40's), and they were both the sweetest shooting, most accurate pistols I've ever touched. Felt like it was made JUST for my hand. Recoil was so light, my father in law (owner of 1 of them) was telling people that "the .40 would be a good ladies cartridge because it has less recoil than a 9mm." :D He's not real knowledgable with guns.... and the BHP was his only experience with a .40.

I picked up one last Saturday. Here's a link to my Range Report.

Since I wrote that, I've put another 150 rounds through it without a glitch. I still haven't got around to removing the mag disconnect, but heck, even with it in place, I'm shooting this pistol better than any of my other autos.

Fit and finish is a little rough (like my Bulgarian Mak), the sights and safety are tiny, and the flat black finish on the slide doesn't look like it will hold up very well, but it's a great shooter, and an absolute steal at $219.

Oh, and a couple more things - many talk of "hammer bite" with HPs. I have large hands, and haven't been bit once in 370 rounds. The finger grove grips seem to be cut for small hands, so they force my middle finger tight against the bottom of the trigger guard, causing a nasty bone bruise. I'm hoping to fix this with a set of Pachmayrs.

The Arcus 98DAC is for sale on century arms web site..you cant
access the pricing unless you are an ffl. Hope this helps....
Aim's website has the HP version for 219.99....almost too good to
pass up. Shoot well

I owned the single action, and had an extraction problem although at the time,I thought it was Blazer ammo related. No flame intended, but I prefer the FEG.

I have given thought to the FEG at times. I do like the HP design
seems to fit large hands. The copies around here are at pawn
shops and the triggers are good but seem to grind or scrape.
Heres the kicker for me, for a fairly clean used FEG they are marked 350.00$ plus. All I can think is I hope that gun likes it here. Shoot well

I like my arcus alot. It used to once in awhile not extract a shell properly. Then one day one of my reloads let loose and blew the extractor out. I ordered a new extractor, spring and pin from browning. They only run about $21 so it was no big deal. The pistol has run like a top ever since. Also I took out the mag disconnect, went with a lighter hammer spring from Wolff's which really made the trigger quite good. I would highly recommend the arcus. Mark

Does the arcus use HP mags? I have that HP itch as well, and I can get a K-31, M-44, HS2000, and an Arcus for less than a HP. Hmmm, need more room in safe...

Just as a note, the Arcus 94 series is an excellent 9mm pistol, but it is not advisable to fire +P or +P+ ammo in them. They are evidently not as tough as original HPs or FEGs. Not a slam, just a lot of reading. Excellent function, though.
