I just borrowed my aunt's .357 magnum, and I can't find a model number. it's a taurus with a 6 inch barrel and looks like dirty harry's .44, she said she bought it 10-15 years ago and I was just curious as to what exactly it was called, instead of "the .357"

There was a M66 that resembled the S&W M66. The M669 which was the same gun as the M66 except it had a full lugged barrel. Then there was the M689 which was the M669 with a vent rib. I had a M689 which I bought around 1990. I sold it to a buddy who had to have it and he still shoots it. Was a right nice revolver for the money.

I think it's out of production, I didn't see it on the site. It's a very cool gun, whenever I look at it i think "I don't know if I fired 5 or 6 but the question you gotta ask yourself is, do you feel lucky? punk. I never saw the movie, just that one scene.

The original M66 had a partial lug that covered the ejector rod and no rib on the barrel.
The M66 today has taken the place of the older M669. It had a full lug covering the ejector rod and a solid vent rib.
The M689 has been dropped totally and it too had the full lug, but it had a vent rib on the barrel.

These 3 revolvers had adjustable sights. There also was a M65 that was identical to the original M66 except it was a fix sighted revolver. The M65 is still made today except it now wears a full lug and a solid rib on it's barrel like the new M66.

Sounds like the revolver is the older Model 66 as the M29 that Dirty Harry carried didn't have a barrel rib.
