what is involved with short stroking a revolver action

I am looking for another 686 to turn in to a PPC gun. I am wondering what would be involved with short stroking the action of it. Would i need to order specific guts or would the gunsmith modify the existing parts to suit my needs.

Also, mounting an aristacrate (spelling is wrong) sight rib on the same gun I will assume, that if the front sight is not a pin on, the gunsmith would just grind the front sight off??

Anybody with 1st hand knowledge feel free to share.

Thank You

Confusion

Your question is ambiguous. Short stroking a revolver generally refers to the manipulation of the trigger. It is a bad thing that means you haven't reset the trigger and the gun will not fire. Putting a short action into the gun means changing the internals. Cylinder and Slide used to do it along with certain pistolsmiths. Competition wise it has pretty much fallen out of favor. You may be able to find a kit in Brownells. In building a PPC gun, the barrel is generally replaced and the Aristocrat rib fits upon the new bull barrel.

Thank You, shorted action is what I was refering to and I plan to have the barrel changed for a slab sided one, but I must save my allowance again, to budget for the barrel and underlug and smithing
