What is involved in removing the stock from a Savage FCP

What tools are needed to remove the stock from a Savage FCP and will a non machinist, as me, mess up the accuracy of my rifle? I found some rust along the barrel in the free floated portion of the stock and am concerned as to what might be under the action portion.
Thanks, Bill Daniel

A allen wrench and to remove 2 screws. Both in front of trigger. The one behind trigger guard does not need to come off. You will not mess anything up doing it. You might want to check (google or someone here can post) The front screw gets tightened first to a certian tourqe and then the back screw when you put it back in stock. While you got it out you can adjust the accutrigger if needed too.

Is a 30 dollar torque wrench precise enough or is the Wheeler system needed? How many pounds of torque is recommended to re-attach the stock?
Thanks, Bill Daniel

Savage reccomends 25 to 30 Inch lbs. You need to do the front screw first.
As to being right on at 25 or 30 inch lbs. I don't think it matters that much. Just dont over tighten them.
