What is "full underlug"...

Typical auto handgun guy...doesn't know revolver parts. Anyway..I'm thinking about getting a revolver, my first one...and was told "make sure it has a full underlug" I kinda nodded and said "yea. ok." without knowing what it is or if it's even needed.

Hi. Go here and look at the Model 19 and the Model 586 right under it. Note the difference in the barrels. The 19 does not have a 'full underlug'. The 586 does.
The underlug stiffens the barrel and adds muzzle weight. The extra weight aids in shot recovery. Whether you need one or not depends on what you will be doing with the revolver.

The page has nothing to do with me. It just has good pictures. I had an M19 for years, but sold it when I bought a Ruger GP-100. Either one will do nicely. Trigger job required for a new revolver just like an auto. Oh, and the M19 isn't made anymore. So if you're buying BNIB, you don't get much choice over an underlug or not.
