What is a "rino"

this has been bugging me . I know it refers to Republicans who are very conservative/pro gun rights, but I'm wondering what it stands for.

I've been seeing the term here for a year and have never seen it defined.

Their natural habitat is Ohio which has had a strong Republican majority in the house, senate and governor's mansion for almost 20 years, saw a huge increase in state taxes over that time, and only got a concealed carry law just over a year ago.

Some great examples are:

Current Governor Bob Taft
US Senator Mike DeWine
US Senator George Voinovich
State Auditor Betty Montgomery
Ex-Senate President Doug White

Republican In Name Only.

A derogatory term Republicans and their apologists have given other republicans who've blown the cover and exposed the real agenda of the Republican party as going in the same direction as democrats, but at a slightly reduced speed.

I guy named Kevin Mannix would by the ultimate Rino. And I voted for him :barf: Far and away, this guy is a liar who promotes gun grabbing.

Hence, he is a rino.

Ptown,

Have you looked at Jason Atkinson? He was on Lars Larson and the question was asked about how he stood on the 2nd and he was for it without ANY infringements.

I'll be watching him to ensure that he isn't a RINO.

As for Kevin, yes, he is a RINO but I felt that he would have been better (if only slightly) then K2.

RINOs are a good thing - if you like socialism

RINOs = Republicrats, with emphasis on the "crat."

Take a look at John McCain and Arlen Specter to see a couple of prime examples. :barf: :barf:

The above was a typo. it was supposed to say:

I know it refers to Republicans who are NOT very conservative/pro gun rights, but I'm wondering what it stands for. :o

Thanks for all the answers, guys. I probably should have been able to figure that out on my own, but it just wasn't coming to me.

Governor Bill Owens of Colorado is a RINO. Fortunately, he's term limited and won't be able to run again. He turned into a RINO his second term and those of us in the GOP feel betrayed!!
.
He's joining the Democrats promoting a referendum in the fall election to "suspend" TABOR (Taxpayers Bill Of Rights - constitutional requirement to limit the amount taxes can be raised based on inflation rates) and is even willing to parrot the Democrats smoke screen that "It's not a tax increase".

If they keep more of my tax money and don't refund it as TABOR requires, IT'S A TAX INCREASE!!!

 :barf:

Our "Governator" in CA is a classic RINO. Marrying into the Kennedy Clan, installing his wife, Maria, as a close political advisor, signing gun control legislation which bans a classification of firearm that has NEVER been recorded as having been used in a crime (.50 Cal BMG). Just another "save-you-from-yourself" social engineer who really "coulda been a contender" if he'd decided to LEAD instead of CAVE to the left and call it compromise.

Excellent thread, listing all the RINOs.

We have to watch for Hillary, too, who will try to appear like a conservative DINO, but is really a marxist.

USP, I know about Jason. However, he needs to get more forceful. I still wish I would have voted for Tom Cox. I would prefer to send a message than go along with everyone else.

It makes me sad every time I'm reminded of the lengths the power hungry will go to to disarm us, going totally against the ideals this country was founded on... :barf: Namely FREEDOM!

I suppose totalitarian government is in the near future anyway, but I for one won't go without a fight.

I know there are others. :)
