ok just for fun i what is your political leaning? i know the questions are kind of blunt and dont give much wiggle room but i have had my interests piqued the last little while with some people claiming " i am a real conservative" but really i considered my self to be a real conservative. i found myself disagreeing with others who claimed they are real conservatives. so what makes someone a true conservative or a neocon, a moderate or a right winger? i guess i am looking for a semi-solid definition from the world of politics, a crapshoot at best, i know.

what do you consider conservative?
what do you consider liberal?

here is a little quiz that might help you

Your Political Profile:

Overall: 95% Conservative, 5% Liberal

Social Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Paleo-con= Socially conservative, economically conservative
Neo-con= Socially conservative, economically liberal
Liberal= Socially liberal, economically liberal
Libertarian= Socially liberal, economically conservative
Moderate= somewhere in the middle.

Overall: 60% Conservative, 40% Liberal
Social Issues: 25% Conservative, 75% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Quite a few of the questions on this quiz were false choices, so the results are a little misleading.

As Cowman said, everything's not black & white.
I'm basically Libertarian with more practical views on foreign affairs. You know...the exact polar opposite of the current administration :)

I didn't either know how

to answer some of the questions or some of them were obviously one sided. I have to agree... it aint that simple. I tried to answer everyquestion except for the one on carrying a gun as a liberal, which I am. and still ended up 45% conservative.

The questions are one sided. All of them.

Overall: 85% Conservative, 15% Liberal

Social Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

And I consider myself a moderate!

as of this morning the link seems to be working. i know the questions are bad but i threw the quiz in for a little entertainment.

well it is confusing to me as a young voter because i identify myself with those who call them selves conservatives, and right now there is a huge movement beginning to move farther to the right of the republican party it seems. here in idaho especially since there are many who who found out how to get into office in a very conservative state, they are called RINO's (republicans in name only) and i am seeing lots of people who are voting the same way they become republicans to ensure their liberal candidate or ideology will be put in place and since today is the state primary it just makes it a harder choice...

anyway your input is appreciated

From what I can tell around here, a "liberal" is anyone that a self proclaimed conservative calls "liberal". So it is a pretty unimportant label.

Like others said, the quiz is highly skewed towards the conservative side.

My results:

Overall: 85% Conservative, 15% Liberal
Social Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal
Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal
Defense and Crime: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

My results;
Your Political Profile:

Overall: 90% Conservative, 10% Liberal

Social Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Just as I thought, I'm pretty conservative. BTW, my first post on your fine forum, look forward to many more.

This is actually very correct for me as I consider myself a moderate but I lean more towards the conservative side.

But the questions are definitley not in depth enough to give whole answers so I just chose which one was heading in a direction that I could have emphasized on.

Here is mine.

Overall95% Conservative, 5% Liberal
Social Issues:100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Personal Responsibility:100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Fiscal Issues:100% Conservative, 0% Liberal
Ethics:75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

I do belive that corperations have a responsibility to provide a safe work enviornment and job stability. But both those things help share holders in the long run. I think that mearly beliving in personal responsibility is a conservative veiw point.

Interesting test. Liberals are more fun at parties or waiting on you at the cosmetics counter but you want a conservative to take out your gallbladder, fix your roof or do your income taxes.

OK, Handy, where are you out there? I'd love to see your stats. :D

Meek,

I was unable to answer about 30% of the questions as neither answer made sense or were even opposites.

Also, there is no such beast as "conservative" or "liberal" ethics. To imply such is to not understand the word.

When I screwed around with the truly nonsensical questions it completely changed my profile. Anyone who puts any weight in such a survey is a dipstick.

My favorite political quiz is Political Compass
It plots out your alignment on a surface instead of a line (like this)
axeswithnames.gif

and actually asks questions with reasonable answers.
I sit between Gandhi and Friedman.

I liked the political compass better. But it is still ambiguous. The questions never take into account why someone may answer one way .vs. another. My numbers are

Economic Left/Right: -1.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 0.31

In reality with more questions I might me a little more + on the Economic and possibly a little more - on the Social. But does seem that I am somewhere in the middle.

for comparison i took the political compass quiz and here are the results...Economic Left/Right: 8.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 5.79

this puts me just above and slightly to the right of Margret Thatcher according to GoSlash's chart.

Hmmm...

Overall: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Social Issues: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Personal Responsibility: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

Fiscal Issues: 100% Conservative, 0% Liberal

Ethics: 50% Conservative, 50% Liberal

Defense and Crime: 75% Conservative, 25% Liberal

What hurt me was that some things that are clearly ethical are interpreted as "liberal" ethics. For example, I firmly believe that companies have a social responsibility to protect the environment. However, the government has no constitutional authority to enforce that responsibility. That is the difference between a liberal and a true conservative. Both want to feed the hungry and provide medical care to the poor, and save the environment. But the liberal is the one that will trade the liberties of the entire population to do it--the conservative will not. The neocon will trade your rights too.
